Rewiring head to toe

Hi all

 

I'm just in the process of buying a new wiring harness for the car

How ever I quite like the clean engine bay look so was wondering if theres any hints and tips you guys and girls May have?

I'm thinking on the same lines on my Tina, up to press h/lamp wiring down each side inc side/ind/ horn all going through shower flex under wings. Sealed bulkhead fittings can be bought from most electrical supplies prob even B&Q

 

 

You'll be different to me as all my engine wiring is separate. You will have if still running Dynamo or alt conversion reg box think (rb340) in engine bay this wil have to be moved in the car or if running alt conversion can be removed as its only used as a junction box.just means unpicking the harness and shorten a few wires. Horns fit under bonnet landing panel and feed from wires already fed into h/lamp. So just left with Dynamo / alt wires x2 temp gauge,oil light and coil wire and ign feed to starter solenoid.These can be split into two small covered looms easily hidden along chassis at either side before entering car. Don't think I've forgotten anything but don't blame me if somethings not working haha

So are you going to / have you made a hole from inside the car to the inner wing?

Yes hole under wing which will come out above parcel shelf. The shower pipe can be cut to length and using the ends makes it water tight

Aaahh!! I see! That was the one bit foxing me, how to get the cables out discreetly!

How are you fixing the pipe under the wing?

I already welded clips under inner wings before it went to paint. You can get some sticky pads with tie-wraps attatched there a possibility for you

Interesting as I like the look of the wire tuck ,leaves nice clean engine bay. I know a few wires may be showing but as above maybe they ca be brought to engine discreetly.There are also rolls of flexy "conduit " available from cat/truck electrical suppliers thats black and waterproof also.

Looks good! The bugger is mines 'nicely' covered in waxoyl!! When I say nicely I mean horrendously thick and gooey!! ( not my doing I'll add!!)

You could always discreetly pop rivet some plates on so only shows pop rivet heads on the top which could be touched in with paint

Any engine wire could be run through bulkhead and hidden under inlet manifold any other via engine mount/ crossmember

Mine was under the passenger side wing as well, and I used those sticky pads but half of em fell off! Couple of P clips sorted it.

I've used them although they ain't the cheapest on cable and suchlike - I tend to use Vehicle Wiring Products.

I found Auto sparks very helpful and willing to sell any coloured wire by the metre which was a great help when building my engine loom

Yea I used vehicle wiring products before for my battery cable but the same order of some convoluted pipe, fixings and p clips is a fiver cheaper through 12volt world as V W P prices exclude vat

Exactly! That fiver saving cud be a couple of pints down the pub......ok a pint down the pub......ok an extra fiver toward that lamp she 'needs' from b and q!!
