JP. Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 I got sacked at work yesterday. 6 months ago I changed profession from truck driver to tool seller. Driving lorry’s wasn’t satisfying anymore after 26 years and I got asked by a tool shop in the region specialised in tools for restoration to work there. He wanted me in the shop and offered me good money. I was a customer for about 9 years and had lots of experience with restoration works on classic cars and motorcycles with his tools he said so It was me perfect for the job. He even told every representative that he hired a good one.. So he offered me as usual a temporary contract for 6 moths with the intention to extend it indefinitely. So I did quit my good solid work as a truck driver and gave up everything including my pension scheme. So I brought a shitload of customers from the Ford Scene and did my best to learn it all with very satisfying customers as a result. From mixing paint to metal shaping using the English wheel. Yesterday evening just 1½ week before the end of my contact he tells me, I have different future plans now, I won’t extend your contract. WTF As I have saved more days leave than the time remaining he didn’t want to pay them. As I insisted on pay out ( my legal right ) I am now not longer welcome and may not show me ever again in the shop as he feels I screwed him big time with this pay out. Thing is, he must have known this coming up for big time. I noticed signs months ago so I did ask him in a writing and in person 3 weeks ago what his plans where. Denial off course. I have legal rights on my side and legal assistance. That part is sorted. But how foolish have I been, to thrust a guy which I thought was a friend I know for nine years, giving up everything to work for him as an employee. I have a bad taste now, not even Scotch will wash away that. He basically gave me just 1½ week time till end of this month to find me another job with hopefully enough income to get going the way I was. I think he should have been honest earlier on. Knowing I have a mortgage and other financial obligations giving me an opportunity to get going the way I was. Now I feel screwed to the bone.
colr6 Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 What an ARSOLE, as an employer myself treat people as you would expect to be treat yourself and can't go far wrong. Take him for all you can get would appear he deserves it!
SmokeEm Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 Awful news JP. Although I just know a resourceful guy like you will be fine, it's still horrible to hear. Good luck for the next few weeks in your job hunt
Admin Vista Posted June 18, 2016 Admin Report Posted June 18, 2016 Sorry to hear that JP. My contract was also not renewed on May 31st (though it didn't come as a surprise to me as I knew the company I worked for didn't have another project to move me on to). So I am also on the job hunt before the money runs out, not a good place to be.
Danish Posted June 19, 2016 Report Posted June 19, 2016 Me too, back in April. Good luck with the job hunting guys.

colr6 Posted June 20, 2016 Report Posted June 20, 2016 For info on how to get money out of this countries benefit system should have been watching Benefit Britain on channel 5........sickening to say the least. No wonder we can't look after our own!
JP. Posted July 1, 2016 Author Report Posted July 1, 2016 Well got offered several jobs in my old profession within a week so I am hauling stuff again.. Long hours but very good money which will be spent on OSF's ( less time for that now but money talks for the moment). Truck is deffo not my favourite brand but on the other hand its just a tool to make money. It will do. 410bhp and 12 speed automatic, double bed, heater and airco. Comes with legal permissions to haul wide and high load. . 5
