BTM_FDR Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Is this a type 9? Inside bell housing (note: bolts to remove bell housing) Code on box Code on bell housing Any help would be greatly appreciated
colr6 Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 A full pic of box would help, but from what I can see. NO
BTM_FDR Posted July 31, 2016 Author Report Posted July 31, 2016 Here you are.... I got this all (1600 Xflow, gearbox and exhaust manifold) from a guy who said it was from a cortina, and what I really want to know is will it all go in my mk1 escort...
Admin Vista Posted July 31, 2016 Admin Report Posted July 31, 2016 Definitely not a type 9, it's a Type 5 4 speed http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-type-5-gearbox-guide.html
BTM_FDR Posted July 31, 2016 Author Report Posted July 31, 2016 Can't be type 5 as it some with the crossflow in the cortina, not a V6... I think it be a 2000e

I think it be a 2000e Look at the link, it's identical isn't it? Measure and count the splines on the input shaft, that should show whether it's a type 5 or 2000E box
BTM_FDR Posted July 31, 2016 Author Report Posted July 31, 2016 You're right, It looks similar, but it's not huge like a type 5 and also it came with the crossflow from a mk2 cortina 1600.
Hotspur Posted July 31, 2016 Report Posted July 31, 2016 That is defo a 3 rail 4 speed. Do you know what Cortina it came out of? It may have 2000e ratios, you'l have to make a couple of markers (cardboard will do) put one on the output shaft, and one on the input. Put it in 1st gear and turn the input just short of 3 turns, and you should get 1 turn on the output. If you don't get a full turn then it's not a 2000e gearset in there.
caprimk1v4 Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Type 5 V6 box also has the bell housing bolted on with the bolts on the outside, not inside the bell housing. That box does not have the "Ears", for external bolting of the bell housing.
herb capri Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 I had three of these, I found a lotus Web page with ratios in and number of teeth but only lotus ratio's, so as it was a Tina box I dug out some old Haynes manuals .two of mine were 1500gt boxes close ratio's, (1500gt was faster to 60 than 1600 gt) the other was mk2 Tina 1600 ratios with an odd first gear ,I sold them on ebay all three for 850! I had them in a pile at the back of my shed for 12 years! Interestingly some ( this will stir up some people ) mainly early were fitted to twinks with hydraulic slave units. It's a tough box worth money to some Hope this helps , Mike

herb capri Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 True, but that is jus the bell housing, easily changed, and if I was retro fit for another ford an easy and reliable upgrade at the time
Col-ashtonmobile Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 its a mk2 Cortina early 3 rail gt/lotus gearbox with a crossflow capri/Cortina mk3 bellhousing
BTM_FDR Posted August 13, 2016 Author Report Posted August 13, 2016 Thanks for all your input... It's gone now :L hehe
