colr6 Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 Does anyone know anything about welding bending titanium, after my lads exit from his bike at cadwell the exhaust system took a bit of a beating, it's suffered dents and twists. Wondering how easy or how to bend it straight and possible how to pull dents out the pipes. Taking its replacement is approx 2.5 to 3k so have a bit of room for manouvering on its repair if at all possible. Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I've not worked with this metal before cheers Col
katana Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 Have a look here ....... http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/welding-titanium.html - Very knowledgeable fellow and a damn good welder! 1
colr6 Posted August 24, 2016 Author Report Posted August 24, 2016 Interesting reading, as stated could cost a fair bit of cash to equip. With the possibility of screwing it up due lack of experience. Think this one might be worth a look to see if we have any specialists here to seek advice if it can be done or not.
The Transplanter Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 What does your boy race in Col? A mate of mines boy used to race in various GP series, I will ask him when I speak to him later as he tuned and built most of his bikes so will probably know someone. I know he has a welder who is shit hot at magnesium etc.

I'm just stripping the engine as it developed a few problems, the first problem I'd said I would build it for him. Easier said than done it defies all logic of timing cams/ crank/ balance shaft. It's one of those were you lock the door turn the phone off and think and rethink. He should have bought an R1 or ZX 10 but kids know best cheers Col

My mate and his boy Connor will be there if you need any advise guidance as they have been doing the rounds for years now. Con used to ride for Aprillia, he still gets invited by them to test prototypes as he is so small! He was a promising talent but doesnt race anymore due to a shoulder injury.
