Hi. New member. Have lots to learn. Looks like I'm in the right place. Thanks guys.

Recently purchased a mk2 1600 sport to restore.

I'll add pic. It is a SA import. The seller told me it is sunflower yellow. The tag states s yellow. Does any body know if there was such a colour as ford sunflower yellow ? Or should it be signal yellow ? Thanks Steve

Welcome to OSF, Rally pack 2000 may be able to enlighten you on the colour as he is from down under if they are the same as Aussie colour options.

Definitely Sunflower Yellow. No mistaking it. Brilliant colour!

Hi. Brakes, suspension ,wheels , interior, engine and then paint lol . Everything needs to be upgraded. Thought I'd buy a runner so can be used as I go along. Absolutely Loving it . I'm starting with the suspension. Do you know if the single leafs are suitable for road use ? Or should I stay standard and fit new bushes ? Do the compression pads add more firmness ? It is going to be a big learning curve. Thanks Steve

I run single leaf on my standard Mk2. I opted for the 116lb springs that were the same as standard so its not harsher than normal. Are the springs badly corroded or do they sag giving the appearance of it being too low at the rear? If not I would be more inclined just to change the bushes.

In another tread you asked about changing to an English axle. It should be a straight swap as far as the rear flexible brake line should match up and the way it bolts to the brings will be the same but Im not sure if driveshaft length will be different. Before you do the swap it would pay to double check that as you may need a matching length driveshaft to go with the English axle. You may be lucky and find someone selling with shaft and springs and pop the lot on in one hit.

Hi. Thanks for confirming the colour. Hoping to have it resprayed next yr. Only chose the car because of the colour, love it.

I'm looking at changing the leafs and shocks. I lowered the rear with 2inch blocks. Looks to be sitting right but when hitting bumps in the road the rear wheels rub on rear mudguard flaps. I've just purchased a full set of poly Bushes so will try them 1st. The 116lb single leafs seem hard to source. Most I've seen are 146lbs which seem to hard for road use.

Thanks for all the advice, very much appreciated.

You may need to upturn your guard flanges so it doest rub as much. Maybe 1in lower rather than 2 may suit your tyre and wheel combo better?

While thats the name of the South African colour your probably wont be able to walk up to the paint counter and ask for 4 litres of it. Their catalogue probably wont extend to overseas colours. You will probably have to colour match it. So find a nice pate of original paint that hasnt seen much sunlight. I found underneath the door trims has nice unaltered colour. Im dubious about paint data bases even if they have your colour in them. The colour of my Mk2 is Sno While (without a W) and its supposed to be a very common colour but when I started buying paints no one provided me with the right one. One of them was a cream beige colour so colour matching is important or you will be in for disappointment and wasting money on paints.

Hi. Removed leaf springs yesturday. Removed the original bushes. Painted and refitted with new poly bushes. What a difference. So much firmer and it now sits 3/4" higher, can't believe they have made such a difference. Hopefully she will now be able to handle some 7j wheels
