Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 Hi all, Looking at getting some steel arches fitted to my MK1...would welcome any recommendations from the forum for people who fit them and do a great job. Thanks
Admin Vista Posted November 12, 2016 Admin Report Posted November 12, 2016 depends where you're from. Gary Martin at Gary Martin Motorsport in Essex fitted mine, no complaints from me.
Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Thanks Vista Do you have any contact details for him please?

colr6 Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 IT won't be cheap, to have them fitted correctly take time with either full tubbing or half. It's not just a case of hacking big holes out and sizzling the arches on. Them on vistas van are spot on and have stood the test of time, can't say more than that really 1
Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 colr6, thanks for the reply. Too be honest I didn't think it would be cheap which is fine as i want it done right. This is my first mk1 since I was 17 and too be honest I am not mechanically minded at all so the majority of work will need to be outsourced. Maybe you can advise on something else related... Ideally as already said I would like to have steel bubble arches fitted but not 100% sure what else will need modifying. For example the car is on a english axle, type 9 5 speed box running on 7x13 wheels. The rear of the shell is steel and has been semi tubbed but the front has fiberglass mexico wings. Any thoughts or suggestions on what you think will need doing or replaced would be really appreciated. Thanks Andy
colr6 Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 Hi Andy, few things really 1) budget 2) what you want to use the car for ID fast road or circuit 3) if it's to be family friendly or an all out frightener. Then put things into catagory - brakes/ susp / engine to suit whatever the use of the car is going to be.
Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Hi, The car is actually for sale on here at the moment... http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/ipb/index.php?/topic/84268-1974-mk1-escort-2-door-complete-restro-21-pinto-162bhp/ I met with Martin last week and it should be going for its MOT this week coming. Didn't want to change too much other than upgrade the rear brakes, cibie lights and wider arches. Thoughts
Ray Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 imho, in that condition you would be mad to mess with it, ok cibies are an option, but then imo you would want quarter bumpers, and spoil its fantastic look, im not a fan of modified cars, but that looks stunning as it is, and think you would be silly to do anything rash at this stage, wait till the car needs work done, or pick one not quite so luverly looking 1
Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Thanks ray...your right it's a lovely looking car. But that's always the dilemma I guess buy one to work on or one that's already done!

As Ray says leave as is its to nice a car to start chopping up.
Andy060172 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Thanks chaps...maybe your right leave as is just the quarters and cibies Andy
Admin Vista Posted November 12, 2016 Admin Report Posted November 12, 2016 Another vote for not arching that car
khanlad Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 Thats a nice car, ive looked round it too, another no arches from me, not on that one anyway
RWL81P Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 if the cars tidy dont hack it up! strait unarched escorts will be a rare thing in another 10yrs. they all seem to be getting arched up and tracked or rallied. unarched escorts will soar in the years to come! 1
