Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted January 7, 2017 Moderator Report Posted January 7, 2017 What wiring loom tape have you guys had success with? I have just used conventional insulation tape but its not very good when things get hot in the engine bay and just goes really tacky. At the other end of the scale proper loom tapes I have seen have no adhesive at all which just unravels itself with time like the original stuff. Any good stuff out there? Preferable PVC like original rather than cloth. Thanks
aardvark101 Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Yeah, normal insulation tape is cack, personally i would go with heatshrink, however if you want a standard look you could try this.. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/self-amalgamating-tape-10-metre cheers Paul 1
preacherman Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 I use good quality insulation tape not pound land special and then cover it with split plastic convaluted tube. Smartens up the engine bay. I will post a picture of my engine bay later 1
colr6 Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Normal pcv insulation tape is alright for local repairs, proper non adhesive tape is best it gives the loom some movement unlike adhesive tape makes it to rigid. With proper tape all you have to do is glue the ends or use an adhesive tape at branch offs then same again glue the ends which stops it unwraveling. 1
Danish Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 I used this stuff: http://www.autosparks.co.uk/electrical-components/sleeving-conduit-tapes/grey-pvc-harness-tape-non-adhesive-ideal-for-covering-wiring-harnesses-19mm-wide-approximately-20m-long.html Non-adhsive grey PVC tape. Looks quite similar to original-fit Ford tape. 1
katana Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 I've done plenty of loomage with 25 & 19mm wide non adhesive PVC tape. Stretch it a little bit as you wind it on with a reasonable overlap and it won't unravel. Do the smaller legs first, start away from the end, wind towards end then back towards main loom. Then wrap main loom and it'll cover all the joints - heat shrink is nice to finish but a non starter if any big plugs are present. 1/2" masking tape is useful for grouping wires to form loom skeleton before finish wrapping. 2
