Captain Mitch Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 What tyres would look the best on my fully restored mk1 Mexico, it has the original steels on her but I wanted to give it a nice wider look so what would you go for please
Paul brex Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 The usual "sarf Landon" look is normally 185/60 13's or 185/55 13's....I've seen a standard looking Mexico before with 205/60 13's which looks quite good from most angles....they look nice n fat on 5.5j rims but the steering might not feel as light as the 185's!
colr6 Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 205s are too wide for 5 1/2 rims 185/60 possibly your best option
MK1-XOO Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 I have a MK1 Sport and 185/70 13's look cool and original.
mk1del Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 I like 185/60 13s not too low and not to much sidewall
YellowTaxi Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 I just bought 4 of these for my Mk2. http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/185-70vr13-pirelli-cinturato-cn36.html Theyy are the tyres it left the factory shod with. Now re-manufactured.

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted May 13, 2017 Moderator Report Posted May 13, 2017 My car still had its original 175/70 CN36 tyres on it when I bought it. My first ever tyre purchase was another set of them. These remakes are pretty expensive for their size, is the compound the same or do they have a modern compound with the original tread pattern?

eeb43 Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 just put a pair on a renault for someone 225/45/zr18 £64.00 the pair he paid makes the 13s look very expensive
Admin Vista Posted May 13, 2017 Admin Report Posted May 13, 2017 The tyres on my daily (255/35/20) cost almost as much for 1 as the 13's do for 4. I guess it's all relative

At the lazy tyre shops who get stroppy if you refuse to take the one tyre they want to sell you (generally some obscure Chinese made thing) when I ask for something better that always say "No one makes sports tyre in 13in as its not a size for good performance" I reply "Yes F1 cars are dogs round corners these days"
Admin Vista Posted May 13, 2017 Admin Report Posted May 13, 2017 The run flat tyres I had on my old 5 series were much more. Hated them too!
eeb43 Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 The run flat tyres I had on my old 5 series were much more. Hated them too! its cheaper to buy a new set of proper wheels and tyres for that than a set of run flats!
colr6 Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 its cheaper to buy a new set of proper wheels and tyres for that than a set of run flats! Is there still a provision for a spare??
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted May 13, 2017 Moderator Report Posted May 13, 2017 I just did a bit of a web search about the current CN36s and they are modern structure and compound with the traditional tread pattern so I wouldnt mind trying them if thats the case. The original ones from the 70/80s were not that great and dangerous in the wet But I loved the pattern in them though.
eeb43 Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 Is there still a provision for a spare?? think so its my nephews car an 07
colr6 Posted May 13, 2017 Report Posted May 13, 2017 Gets me like with some of the Renault cars no spare normal tyres just an inflated canister, must be good if they can repair holes in the sidewalls when the missis runs for two miles wondering.....What's that noise!
Admin Vista Posted May 13, 2017 Admin Report Posted May 13, 2017 I just swapped the runflatd out for conventional tyres and took a chance. Got away with it for over 3 years till I sold the car.
