had to help an aa man earlier move a car that he dropped off at the garage next door a vauxhall with the head gasket gone! no surprise there! he said that he likes vauxhalls as they give them more work than any other car!

In all the years of us using red tops we've only had one gasket go and that was due to a thread pulling on the front dowel stud. We run comp ratios fron 11/12-1 GM heads and blue anti- freeze. You would have thought we would be popping gaskets left right and centre but NOT! What more can I say.

the early ones did especially with that silly italian head the ones that are left must be the better castings

he also laughed and said never seen a good one when i mentioned the 3 cylinder turd!

To get over the problem of thread pulling, the early studs are longer so get more bite, since we've had no more problems pulling threads out.

Well at least with only 3 cylinders you've 25% lest chance of a gasket going!.....LOL

I have never once seen any Vauxhall ever blow a gasket here. Nor ever broken down.

the 4 cylinders only ever ran on 3 thats why they just did away with a cylinder! and the 3 cylinder runs like a 4 with a lead off and vibrates just the same

as for the v6 in cavs and calibras dont even bother looking!

We used to beat the crap out of our SRI traffic cars 24/7/52, never broke one, but apparently a driving school car developed a strange tap at 90k, it was a big end bolt which had failed, the head came off and the bolt (now a stud) was wound out and tapping on the sump. New bolt, good for another year until age retired. Great engines.

Of course, I'm old school, but our 16 valvers were just as good and reliable. My son also had a Cavalier SRi 16valver and he could break a Tonka toy, it eventually died at 90ish K when some muppet rear ended him but the engine lived on in a Mk2 Escort rally car, and it eventually got retired to spare engine duty, it was an brilliant engine.

(but if you really want an awesome Vauxhall, you need a Senator. )

Must be something in the water near you, all you seem to suffer with is head gasket failure.....lol....could be a preventative measure only use bottled water in engines.

it only appears to happen on vauxhalls it must be the crap quality aluminium they make the heads from!
