I've just bought another pushbike and the price has gone up £400 since December.

Delivery time has also doubled on it too.

Friend of mine is a continental haulage driver and he said that his costs etc have not risen through Brexit, but more  because of Covid restrictions. He now has to pay for and prove negative tests etc, which he is adding to his costings.

there was a firm on the BBC news about 2 weeks ago, that were complaining that the price if a container had risen from around £1500 to £10,000, if you can get one, which was ruining their business, again this was blamed more on the corona than Brexit, as so many containers were sat around parked up full at docks around the world, empty ones werent available

That's interesting, funny the things you don't think about cause the problems.

The last thing I imported was my UTE from Australia, 4 years ago. I didn't think the costs of importing outside the EU will have changed much, aside from what you said about the covid , and containers.

I was interested in costs to import from the EU, due to us leaving Europe, have there been any changes, price hikes, that would make it uneconomical now.

Well, I resisted importing a car this time, and bought one off a guy who had imported a few Cortina's from Sweden in December last year, just before the Brexit  import complications.

It's a 1969  MK2 Cortina 1300 xflow deluxe 2 door.

I'm going though the registration process at the moment.

DVLA have required me to send in photo's of the car, and chassis number, and chassis plate, which I've done this morning , so we'll see how that goes.

I imported , and registered 5 cars now, and this is the first time I've have to take pictures, I guess they randomly ask , every so often.

Anyway, here's a pic.

Well 8 months later , a load of work , a load of cash, it's on the road, first time out and driven since 1989.

And it drove great, smiling all the way 😁

The fuel gauge wasn't working very well, erratic.

This is what I found, remember this is pre 1989 fuel , and not E10.

I've replaced bit with a plastic one, and all works well now 😁

I'm interested if anyone has imported a car from Europe since the Brexit. What are the changes , if any ? to import, VAT etc ?

I would imagine it would be the same as importing a car from anywhere now.

I have imported a few from the US. You will pay 5% duty on anything over 40 years old, then your normal, import/shipping/clearance fees/VAT etc.

If you know the person selling, just get them to reduce the value on the invoice to you so you don't pay as much duty.

I guess I should of said  "I'm interested if anyone has imported a car from anywhere since the Brexit. What are the changes , if any ? to import, VAT etc ? "😁

The reason I asked is because I haven't imported any cars for a few years now, the last coming form Australia.

I wondered if it was more involved and costly , or if it made little difference.
