Hi all

The old grey matter ain't what it used to be, so looking for a bit of guidance really, have always run NGK plugs (no particular reason), and just checked the plugs in the Mex and to be fair they look like they could do with changing, last changed donkeys years ago before it went into storage and a low cost bit of maintenance

Have in the past run NGK BPR7ES, and I thought that's what I still had in there, but somehow I've got the normal BP6E's in! so long ago I cant remember what was in there.

So, question is, should I go back to the BPR7ES or are there any others out now which may be better suited?  normal road use - albeit sometimes a bit spirited

I've never clamed to be an expert or OSF mechanic extraordinaire, so all feedback is appreciated. 👍

Cor blimey, there are a lot of alternatives on that site aren’t there

Would you stick with NGK or are another other brands better these days?

Well, as i'm primarily a biker, NGK's are pretty much my first choice whenever required and over 30+ years they've always served me well - even racing with daftly powerful engine set-ups ie. I've melted the electrodes off a nitrous bike and still managed to ride home from Stratford to Camberley - how it was sparking is a mystery, but it was! I've used Champions in my Cooper 'S' and had Bosch plugs in my first RS2 back in the day, so its sort of whatever you fancy - just don't buy cheap - there are a few NGK fakes around, so buy from reliable source!

I'll just stick with the NGK's

I've heard of fake plugs before, but it amazes me that people would go to such extent as to offer fake plugs considering the genuine ones are so cheap to buy.

Don't worry, wont be no ebay cheapies😁

I bought a set of 4 champion plugs off eBay. Didn't think anything of it, car barely ran, pulled the ignition apart, carb apart etc. Couldn't understand.

Went to the motor factors got some more champion plugs an hey presto worked perfectly.

Didn't know fake plugs were a thing. Was lucky really as could've done all sorts of damage I'm sure!

Yea only from the local motor factors now, they're more expensive but I'm certain they're genuine that way

OK, so new plugs from the local motor factors, and balanced the 40's and seems to be a lot smoother and more responsive, the 40's were way out!

Cheers for the input guys

Cheers mate, I threw in the NGKBPR7ES's and they are doing their thing at the moment, I'll revert back to this thread when I need to change them again next time

Thanks
