Hi Guys, hope you don't mind having a non Ford owner in the club?

I my defence, in my youth I owned several Fords which are now classics. I do have a couple of non Ford classics and I am keen on all classics, I do all sorts of bodywork, mechanical and simple electrical work on my own vehicles.

I live in south Manchester and am on various forums and would like to get my hands on a Mk 1 Escort for restoration.

Hey guys new member here, I’ve bought a early 1971 mk1 escort with no number in top chassis turret and no vin plate, I’ve got the Reg but Dvla won’t give me the chassis number to register it to me because I’m not the registered keeper lol any help/ideas?

there isn’t an engine so can’t get code from that and the chassis/suspension turret looks original and hasn’t ever had any numbers stamped, I’ve been told the early ones were only on the chassis tag?

thanks

mmmmm, go buy a log book ??, you still run the risk of the DVLA rejecting it, if they start asking their usual stuff, then thats more money down the drain, and the fact hes already on the system as asking for a V5 for an un identified car, i call that risky, then of course its also about finding the correct V5 to match the shell/year type, as someone will notice if its wrong, even if the DVLA dont, was a tad silly buying an unidentified car in the first place, as you stand to loose your money

I think you've bought yourself a whole heap of problems unfortunately.

Try an HPI check under the reg number but if that doesn't give you the chassis number then you are stuck.
