Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted February 11 Moderator Report Posted February 11 Apparently you need special mounting plates when you want to fit the genuine RS twin IDF air filter assembly? Im guessing originals are impossible to get does anyone do a replacement? Im not even sure what these things look like so even an image would help. Thanks
Miniliteman Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 You mean the air horns inside the airfilter housing? They are air horns but also make sur that the housing does not split when the nuts are tightened. Some VW also use these airhorns and you can them form places like classiccarbs although I don't know if a plate for a 40IDF will also fit a 44IDF. (cannot attach photos some here are links) https://www.historicmotorsport.net/shop/used-parts/engine-used-parts/pair-of-weber-44idf-carbs-on-pinto-manifold/ https://classiccarbs.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/52848.003-1.jpg 1
BIG G Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 No plates needed, if you mean the alloy top plates then you can buy those from TEMU or ebay, but make sure you get 44mm ones. but they are not needed 1

I will send a photo over and ask if thats it.
dasadrew Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Yep, those are the official Group 1 top plates. When searching for "just-in-case" spares in the 80's I came across a Group 1 air filter housing, but it was cracked in the area where those plates go. Needless to say, the plates hadn`t been fitted, so I concluded that they were there to stop the filter housing flexing and cracking 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted February 14 Author Moderator Report Posted February 14 Yes the top plates that @Miniliteman posted a link too although those ones are 40mm. I trying to find a set of 44mm ones. 5 hours ago, dasadrew said: Yep, those are the official Group 1 top plates. Over the years I have seen many cracked ones at that point or poor weld jobs at the same spot. I suspect not using the plates leads to cracking and damage then.
