Basil Green started out as an engineer in F1, working on Coventry Climax engines of the day. He returned to South Africa and started BG Speed Shop. Tuning cars and making tuning parts. He had a foundry for castings and a cam grinding machine. He became well known as a driver and engineer. He ended up dropping V6 engines into Cortinas for a local dealer and ford SA ended up backing it. It became the Perana. Then came V6 Capris, which quickly became a 5L V8. Ford SA then got 100 RS1600s sent over, but they had massive trouble with the BDAs so they sent ~60 to Basil who fitted a 2l pinto. I own one of these. He also built V8 Granada's, tuned XR3I, and tuned tuned Saphires later on. All called Peranas Eventually he became a Ford Main Dealer, Basil Green Motors. Edited Saturday at 18:25 by Farnsbarns 2 1
