Hi all. New member posting for the first time. Returning to my youth when I owned a lovely 79 white RS2000 2 door, I recently bought a dark orange 79 2 door Rally pack. I’m pretty sure it’s an original car as it has most of the unique features ie black perforated vinyl trim, rear anti roll bar, tachometer dash, bumperettes and Carello driving lights, rally stripes etc. doing a bit of research however, the ID plate which confirms it as a 79 GL 2 door (tick) with the body number matching the stamping on the strut tower lists its colour as Y (harvest gold) and trim as V (tan)   Am I sourcing codes from an English list with different codes?. I know the colour of the car may well have changed but the trim has me confused. The engine is a J for 2000 HC so that seems right. Model 11917 seems correct. Is raw orange the darker orange.
thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard, and nice score on the Rally Pack. Those are getting hard to find.

Y/V on the plate is most likely the car's original build spec, so harvest gold with tan trim as it left the factory. If the Rally Pack stuff (black perforated vinyl, stripes etc.) was added on top of a standard GL, the plate wouldn't necessarily reflect it, but I'm guessing there. Worth checking for traces of gold in the door jambs, under the carpet, inside the boot or behind the rear seat, since that'd confirm the colour change. It's also a good one to ask in an Australian Mk2 Escort group or register, as someone will have a Rally Pack with a plate to compare.

Pics of the car and plate would be great.

I hold the Rally Pack Register for the past 30 years (when I created it). There aren't many on it as most cars you see aren't actually GS Rally Packs but opted Rally Pack extras on a GL made more confusing that both are stamped GLs. British codes and Australian ones are completely different. If you can send me a image of the compliance plates that would be good. One hurdle though is you need to make a few posts I think before you can privately message. Don' t post the plate pics publicly send them to me in a private message. But feel free to post images of the car in this thread would be helpful to start with and of the engine bay inner right hand guard. Can you start by telling me what month in 79 it is? Because the Plate ID says GL because Rally Packs use a GL shell as all Australian shells are strengthened that is not a clear indicator if its a genuine Rally Pack or not. That requires an in person inspection or the Certificate from Ford Australia if it left the factory as a GS Rally Pack. But with enough photos I can usually tell if its more likely to be one or not.

Raw Orange is the best colour for Rally Packs

Looks a clean one.

The seats look like the tombstone ones you get in the mk3 Cortina GXL, or is it just the seat covers as an illusion.

Both! Cortina tombstone vinyl seats with seat covers!

That was just an example of the colour not the one referred to in this thread

Mine never actually had them. The original buyer specified a sports racing seat as a dealer option even though it wasn't offered directly by the factory.

You could choose any seat option, or were the tombstones the standard option?

The tombstones were standard option but they didnt suit the sports image of the rest of the car (the hiest sports model of the Escort at that time) so in my cars case the dealer themselves arranged for replacements to rectify that. Ford themselves reacted with their version of the droop snoot RS2000 came out 2 years later in 1979 had Australian version of the Scheel seats
