Bit of a dissapointment

I only buy Classic Ford from time to time if there is a particular article or maybe two that grab my attention. The other months the money goes on my car. So i picked up a copy yesterday for the X pack Capri article (plan to do mine with an aftermarket kit next winter as i couldn't find a good original one) and the build it on a budget V8 Capri article. (again something i'd planned for my car next year)

 

I was very dissapointed to find that there really wasn't anthing to the X pack article at all. A car with no real story, an average looking engine bay and a supposedly "mint" (what i'd call average) interior. Was this article just an advert for this guy to find some history on his car and maybe a set of tyres? The most exiting bit was the talk of the 3.4 litre essex but where is it? oh yeah it's just an idea. You guys have clearly spent very little time researching this article. I mean is it a motorsport shell? Aren't you meant to be journalists? Don't get me wrong it's a nice car but this is hardly a feature.

 

Okay enough of that. Lets get on to the build it on a budget V8 Capri article. Like i said i was thinking of doing this to my car next winter untill i started to read the article. "Technology is getting cheaper so engines like the 2.9V6 and 24V Cosworth are more popular. I guess the price of fuel doesn't help either." So i've looked into it and decided that it's a way cheaper and easier option to go 24V Cosworth. Why didn't you do the article on this? I thought it was all about saving money?

Sorry to hear you found the article to be dissapointing, I personally found it to be a good feature on a great example of an original and well looked after Xpack Capri, something we haven't had in the mag for a long time and something I'm certain the majority of Capri fans will appreciate.

 

As far as the budget build feature goes we may well do a feature on building a Cosworth V6 MkIII Capri later on, but this specific feature was designed to concentrate on fitting a V8 engine, not a V6.

The quote you gave from the feature was an aside from one of the specialists we went to for help with the feature and refers to why the V8 swap is less popular these days. THat doesn't mean that people don't fit them though, and that's down to the fact that fitting a V8 is a choice based on engine preference and not just cash.Having said that though, you're right when you say the feature was about saving money, hence why it's called a budget build feature, but it's designed to save you money if you want to fit a V8, not just if you want to fit another engine (such as a 24v V6) into your Capri.

the rover v8 pictures was taken from my car,

Jon asked me if he could use my capri, and i jumped at the idea (was a sort of feature )

I must admit my car was never built on a budget (and don't i know it)

BUT you can build a v8 capri on a decent budget.

the more cheaper options now are the ford or chevy v8 as parts are a lot cheaper than the Rover power plant.

I thought the review thingy was pretty cool. As stated, it was about fitting a V8, what the capri should of had and had all bases covered.
