flyingbanana Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 if you get arc eye do you get it in both eyes normally or just one....one of my eyes is stinging like mad and i dont see any thing in it.....just wondering if my new welding helmet is not working correctly
luz008 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 you can get it in just one eye - just all depends on exposure if its a cheap auto helmet alot of people get problems with these - they are slow to react and cause problems if welding for extended periods.
flyingbanana Posted March 23, 2007 Author Report Posted March 23, 2007 yes its a cheaper version than my old one has i wernt paying out another £130 for another one has that screwed up after a few years....both are solar paneled
Rick Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 damn youl be the only one wearing sunglasses this time of year
RUSTYPUP Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I've got a helmet like that. Only used it once! I gota tiny flash every time I arced up. My eyes started to feel real achy so I stopped just in time I reckon
Durham Fiesta Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 you can get it in one eye, the downside is there is nothing you can do about it really. It'd be worth your while gettin a decent screen if your welding a lot
petrolhead01 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 dont use auto tinting masks they are a waist of money!!! dont care how much they cost the fact of the matter is you have only got one pair of eyes and you need to look after them!!! ive been welding for a long time and was certificated < and personally i have seen alot of people really fook there sight up using so-call auto helmets, is convenience really worth the risk!!!! come on guys what is the point of all of as building these lovely cars that in the future we wont be able to drive cos are eyesight is shot!!!! its like the moped riding twats round where i live all buying £25 crash helmets!! once its gone its gone!!! there is no growing it back!!

Wessie Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 i welded up all of my anglia without a mask
atomic punk Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Can someone reccomend a decent helmet at a reasonable price then? I've only got a hand held shield at the moment and was thinking about getting one of those reacting ones but am now thinking twice.
alladdin Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 have a look on the mig weld forum. guy sells paraweld at a decent price. a few have bought and i think all are happy.
luz008 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 the auto darkening ones cannot be that bad - thousands of welders use these every day without injury. the guy on the mig forums sells really good ones for about £60
flyingbanana Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 well not sure if i had ark eye or not has the pain has gone away now......never had it b4 but im pretty sure it lasts more than 2 days...and didnt have to wear sunglasses......ive had no probs with the solar paneled helmets before....makes welding alot easier
