"Playing with old Fords." "Oh wow, old cars are always nice. My Cavalier's nice." "Errm, right." "So what you building?" "Mk1 Escort, rebuilt GT, twin choke webber, capri struts, Bilstiens, slammed, mexico wings, 6-clock dash, ashley exhaust and Mexico arches" "So thats a classic nowadays then?" - sarcasm "fook off" At kit car show passed by an orange cobra rep with a small block chevy on some ARE rims "Nice to see one done properly with the right engine and everything" Or mention my dad's got a bubble car: "Oh I remember those what with two wheels at the front and one at the back" "Yep" "With the door at the front" "Yeah" "Oh, a Messerschmidtt!" "No, an Issetta." "Oh I remember them too, they had the perspex canopy that lifts up and one seat behind the other" "No thats a Messerschmidtt" "With the door at the front?" "No! With the canopy that lifts up - thats a Messerschmidtt - we have an Issetta" "Oh right, with the canopy that lifts up and sit one behind the other" I'm in the fuc*ing owners club I know what I've got!

Hi just spoke to Martin for you today re email coming back there is something wrong with the link on the web site if you mail him direct on the email below i know it's the same address as the one on his site but it's the link note the address thats faulty all the best Wayne martin@theescortagency.net Well done fella, that's super. Hows the 'bubblecar' then? Cheers, Nick
-
Oh and go to Image wheels to get some Halibrand replicas, they do them in split rim with 4-stud ford fittings, my brother got some for his Cobra and they are superb
-
Okay I'll try his landline later on maybe he's just too busy. I know he's very helpful from my past dealings, just email kept bouncing so wondered if he's moved. Cheers
-
No, not like that! I need some stuff to prepare my mk1 for the road, but the email address on their site keeps bouncing back and I couldn't get hold of Martin on the phone, any one know if they've changed it or whats wrong? Also, is Mexico Marks still going and anyone got any details?

Ah can't wait to see the Capper Mark, well I've got my dad's mate who's welding up the escy, should have the Anglia running this weekend and up for sale next week and then my dad's mechanic is taking the MK1 to have a look at the welding and wiring for me, so she should be done for a summer's worth of blatting about.
-
So you'd prefer a Sierra kiddin.
-
Maybe we should all do a run out sometime and all drop in for a visit and ask for our money back collectively, he wouldn't be able to shrug it off and escape the consequences then, and I'm sure it would f*ck up huis reputation big time if he does it from home and gets a whole club of angry customers outside As soon as I got them I joined up for the Anglia Owners Club, getting my escort stuff from the Escort Agency. The magazine I work for just pulled a big advertiser from the pages unless he sorts out his bussiness, I've heard complaints from people regarding East Kent for a while nd I think that the publishers should be aware of what they are advertising andf take more responsibility, for the reputation of the magazine.

Cheers dude. It would have been a damn site easier if my brother's yellow one hadn't been written off, especially as they weren't worth much then. Its in the family though, my brothers moved on as he's just got his cobra replica on the road after a decade of piecing it together, my mum's got the 1970 Land Rover which will be restored, my dad is supposedly doing my parents 1960 Issetta 3-wheeler and then they have a 1950s Ferguson TE20 tractor to do, and there's my brother in law who buys any 'bargain' he can, got a corvette and a 78 camaro amoung others at the moment
-
Well depends, are they to the exact dimensions as genuine ones - I've got one genuine and one arch extension which I will be replacing at some point to even the score so as long as they come identical I'd be interested, whereas some repro Anglia wings aren't exact copies and notice if you replace one side. How much then?
-
Its the other way round - multi cart springs are used on road cars and give a softer ride for mr joe public, single leaves are lightweight replacements developed for racing & rallying and hence are stiffer.
-
Does the Holley 4-barrel fit then? Try the NSRA forums, there's a swap meet soon at Arena Essex Deuce Coupe mentioned that might be worth a look, Rochester 4-barrel carb might be a more wallet friendly alternative or if your lucky you could just stuff in a Rover V8
-
I'd love to do that, well its what I had in mind but my wallet says I can't - the Escort needs a new interior, welding, wiring, rear springs, carbs and then hopefully a move up to a hot 1700 fast road motor whereas the anglia needs a quite a few panels, and Anglia panels especially are pricey so I'm keeping tghe Mk1 as I'm afraid if I sell that I'd never be able to get another 2 door.

Reminds me of the LTD in Men in Black My brother in law had a black Mk5, standard looking but low on black & polished pepperpots with smoked glass and rear lenses. Had a 2.9 and dixie horns and CB, it looked real mean though. -
Cheers mate, Its a killer deciding which one of them to keep and which one to pass on, they both are such great cars and I've had a lot of fun this past year in the anglia, despite its low capacity and various problems that I've been sorting, but the Mk1 was my first car and having driven the Anglia as a fill in, I'd end up kicking myself eternally if I never got to drive the Escy. The Escy is the nicer looking of the two body wise, I'm just not sure how far to take it, its had a roof rack that's been overloaded and left a few creases and an aerial drilled in it, plus some gypsies had away with our generator from the shed and dropped it on my boot and quarter above the filler cap so not sure if I should strip it again and fit new roof and spray it nicely. The Wheels on the anglia look really nice in a 60s kinda way but I was in the process of putting it back to original cos of its history, they rub a bit on the front but do make it look a bit sportier. Its only 997ccs but its fun round the lanes I tell you, the diffs geared low so its very sprightly off the line which causes a few grins and when its been raining it easily goes onto full opposite lock.
-
So where did you go? You cant be back if you haven't been anywhere Sorry
-
Yeah he's right. It's mainly the Americans who fluff up car names, they launched the Chevy Nova in the 60s and course their mexican exports didn't sell at all causing confusion, when someone pointed out that in Spanish it meant does not go, which was pretty silly to be marketing it as eh? As HSBC says its best to understand your customers
-
Wow what year is your RS mate? That looks so cool with the early stripe on it and the white 4-spokes.
-
God that was lucky mate, I was driving my mum's corsa and the fan belt went, the AA came and changed it for me, then the following week it all went bang and clatter so I stopped it, called the AA and told them to tow me home cos the cam belt went bang - the fooking monkey insisted on starting it up before he would tow it and consequently fooked every valve and piston on the motor.
-
You can have my anglia if you want then you can drive like a grandad Seriously, glad you didn't get your lisence taken mate.
-
Jeez mate that sucks. He should never have said he'd just take you for a drink and you should be elegible for a decent sized payout for being made redundant. My sister in law's a solicitor, if you want I can speak to her and find out some details though I think your best speaking to citizens advice they'll put you on the right track. I hope all goes well mate.
-
It'll be the same as my anglia one, its like a cake tin. After pulling the airbox off the carb undo the screw at the top, and the two halves will prise apart if you stuck yopur fingers in the hole underneath and pull on the intake tube. You can then remove the wire from inside and scrub it with petrol to clean it, it'll be good as new. Oh and make sure its dry before you put it back.

My windscreen rubber did fit, however he is in breach of trade descriptions and I've had a lot of similar people saying the same things. That when I questioned about all those litttle bits he'd forgot to mention he told me to go to B&Q and just shrugged off the rest when it clearly wasnt what was advertised just takes the piss and that i posted it all back to him registered post and with a letter, he didnt refund me, this guy just should not be in bussiness cos he's not selling what he says and fooks off once he's got your money. I'm not sure where else to get Mk1 stuff, I joined the 105E owners club straight after that and wish I had before, if I ever come across him at a show again he'd fookin well know it.

Hey, I finally got some piccies up of my motors. I got back into the whole Old Skool Ford thing again, when I was little my parents had a Mk1 Escort estate and my brother had a daytona yellow 1300GT that he restored and used to blat about in, but that was written off when someone went up the back of it, so he momentarily bought a pinto powered Mk1 in Modena green with glass bubble arches and alloy interior. I'd always wanted either a capri or a 2nd generation Camaro, but when I was 15 my brother broke his leg and was bedbound for the summer, so I rode my bike up to his place to keep him company each day and decided to go into the newsagents to get him something to keep him occupied, hence a copy of classic ford with a Mk1 RS2000, and I realised that there isn't anything better than a decent OSF, starting the hunt for a MK1. So I bought my Mk1 in August 2003, an 1100L with 1300GT, 6-dial GT dash, Ashley exhaust, Capri struts, single piece RS prop, one genuine Mexico wing and one welded on arch. It was then we found that nothing had been done right, the wiring's a mess, the bulkhead had been drilled to accomodate some 12" subwoofers, only three bolts held in the engine and gearbox, the calipers were different on either side and the suspension was hanging on by a thread. So, I rebuilt and painted the suspension, completely overhauled the braking system and gave the engine a strip down and new bearings etc. I brush painted the engine bay for the time being but wasn't allowed the car home as my parents were intending to have the driveway block paved but kept putting it off and it was stored seven miles from home so it all just seemed impossible, but its now home and is going to finally get done. These are from the day I picked it up, I love the way it sits andf hopefully it'll go back down to being 3" dropped once I get it up and running. I love the first pic. The Land Rover is my mums, despite its appearance its actually a Series IIA and is a very late 1970 model its one of the last before they changed to producing the Series III, hence the SIII style front end, yet it has the metal bulkhead as the dash with central guages. It used to be a real tough ol gal off road, but now needs a new chassis. These were taken as it is now, on 2" lower springs, the lowering blocks are yet to be fitted though want to fit some decambered single leaves first to get it sitting lower. Some wonderful modifications to the bulhead And the Anglia.... My parents were annoyed I keep using her car and told me to get another, but nothing took my fancy. I was looking for a Mk1 Capri when they pointed out the Anglia in Classic Ford and told me to take a look. I used to follow them, racing against Mustangs when I was a kid and had always been taken by them. So I bought a 1964 997 Deluxe in Aqua blue. I'm the third owner and the original owner had it from 1964 upto when he passed on in 1998, when his son painted the stripes up it and fitted Rostyles before selling it to the guy I bought it off who wanted a car he could take his son to play football in without worrying about his car's carpets. I'd intended to modify it and drop in a crossflow, but with modifieds obviously entails Milton gear and I need the money for the Mk1 so once I've got the engine back in it'll be on its way, but its been real funa nd economical. It also has more history and paperwork than I've ever seen with a car, including the original ford dealers reciept with the extra cost of wing mirror and heater, the old MoT stamps and a little pocket book with every gallon of petrol, the brand, the ammount, cost and mileage each time he filled it up! Plus tyres, service etc. As said other than the stripe which looks quite nice its in its original sun bleached paint which looks quite cool - I'd wanted to have it as a rat look sleeper. But its been very paractical as a runabout and will be sorely missed. The steering wheel came out of My dad's Mk1 Cortina and has been in every old skool ford that's been in the family, it has a really cool centre cap from an old ford truck with the red & chrome barred 60s Ford logo.
