Oh she is very understanding...If im building engines in the house im not at the workshop away from home! Engines were crated up and sent while attached to these trolleys didn't want them resting on manifolds or sumps etc. Typical engine stand was too tall, too unstable for moving about the flat, into and out of lifts and across carparks! JP

holy thread mine! but came across this so thought Id share. best engine trolley ever used for multiple engines and moving the cossie from London to Australia [/url] JP

As I understand it the repayments only start after graduation and the person earns over 21000 per year. This is intrest free loans until you earn 41k per year when it becomes a 3 percent charge. this system is similar to what Australia and several other countries have had for a decade or so. not saying its good or bad just saying. I have 3 degrees, bachelor of business, BA in Design and a BA in Architecture I also have a diploma in Draughting...10 years at university. I owe over 60K in tuition fees, in Australia these debts grow by a CPI rate sometimes this has amounted to more than I have paid off in that year. I will most likely never pay the debt off. Has it been worth it? Judging by my pre-degree class mates, incomes and paths in life, yes! My training has allowed me to have travelled the world, worked in many places, and earnt substantially better than most of them, and the best is yet to come as oportunities grow the older I get. I dont believe the fee increase should affect the poorer members of society or block their access to education, unless they get into education debt for useless degrees with no possible decent income stream. However I believe society benefits from an educated workforce, better engineers, lawyers, doctors etc contributing taxes and expertice and making opportunity for others. I dont mind the debt, would prefer not to have it, its also only a small contribution to my education the state having paid the majority of it, I pay for some as I get the biggest benefit, the state pays for some because it also gets a tangible benefit. Cheers, JP

Thanks Fred, your not the first to suggest this, however whichever way I go I still need help with a welder. my only other concern is size. I have a space in the flat, next to the bookshelves, where the engine can sit. The design of the trolley was such that it will hold the engine off the wood floors, allow it to be moved for relocation and cleaning under it and of course fixing to a pallet for transport to Australia. I was hoping to get an offer of help so that I could do it myself, failing that its off to a fabricator to have done and at significant cost. cheers, JP

Thanks for your replies guys. I have the engine stand, it was cheap, it is also not able to be moved easily nor helps move the bloody thing around the flat, or up and down stairs and finally will not help it get back to australia when we have it sent there at the end of my contract. hence the design which should see the sump 20-30mm above the floor, able to be put away in the corner to hide the engine in our 1 bed flat because its not very big. Any help out there? cheers, JP

Guys Could anyone help me with something like this, its pretty simple, but Im here for another year so the engine needs to be put somewhere and be moveable and I have no access to tools or place to do it. A trolley for moving a cosworth YB engine, 4 castor wheels, a steel frame and some risers and plates to bolt to the block mounts? 25mm suare tubing? Im looking for some help, either tools and a place to work or a really competitive price or both. Im in Inner London Thanks in advance Justin p

I bet the escort wont hold its value like the sculpture, nor last as long. Have to have money to make money and it will probably prove to be a great investment...as with any investment...assuming it wasnt bought for too much to start with. The previous owner was hoping for 18 million, would guess they paid less than that so probably worked for them as a great purchase...Good luck to them JP

Matt black is actually quite hard to get right especially with rattle cans. Any variation in texture or slight mix between cans (even the amount you shake them) can lead to patchyness. Any runs, dust, bugs or thin patches cannot be rubbed as the texture changes again leading to patchyness. Touching it up is difficult without the identical paint as again you get patchyness. trust me been there with a number of things, including a boot and bonnet onthe current Mk1. best to do it like normal re-spray with the propper equipment in a booth to eradicate dust etc. cheers JP

Had a similar story with a aussie falcon. Was told the gearbox had stuffed itself and the only repair was a replacement as it was that far gone. new gearbox was worth twice what the car was. didnt have the money so had it towed and was going to put a manual gearbox in it from an older model (much cheaper). was speaking to a friend who suggested looking at one of the gearbox ecu plugs, sure enough, as suggested there was a small amount of corrosion on one of the pins. pulled it apart, gave it a clean up and a lube, bolted it all back together and hey presto good as new. money grabbing pricks! and a reputable ford dealer too. lost all business from me! Thank god im not a grandma! For what its worth. anb well done to the home mechanic who never says die cheers JP

many weld 5mm thick plates of steel between the side/planetary/spider gears on both sides and then do it again on the other side then again weld it to the carrier. Took me 2 hours almost to do it solid. good luck. Justin P

Personally I thinkit's great. it's about time we had politicians stand up and do the right thing despite the petty opposition to it. We face a problem not only here in the UK but globally. And if nobody starts fixing the problem it wil only get worse. Yes The UK is a small country, but it is still one of the bigger poluters per person. If we don't do whats right then we will never be able to lobby other people or countries to follow suit. As hard as it is being a car driver I applaud the strategies. User pays rather than the future! Justin P

Are you covered for a broken limb outside of work and work hours? If you do it at work wont there be an investigation! Carefull which bone you break! based on this whole thread Im guessing your youngish and tough (to think about doing it, young! to believe you have the guts to do it, Tough!) Bones contain amongst other things a thick greasy substance called yellow marrow (fatty cells). Once a bone is broken this marrow can seep into the blood stream and settle in th eheart or the brain, then if you are unlucky you die. It is particularly a problem in the big bones of fit strong young men. Big bones mean lots of marrow. And its not that uncommon. upper leg bones are the worst and the upper arm bone as well. Dont forget the forearms and lower legas are actually two bones and a break here can lead to complications in wrists and ankles. An xray will show up any anomolies with the break and If I was investigating the award of 6 months paid leave for a broken bone of a known disgruntled employee id be asking for the x-rays to determine how it happened. Especially if it was claimed to have happened at work where you would be most entitled to paid leave. Id think seriously about this before you do it. Bad luck and youll die, slightly better luck and youll have a broken limb with future complications, have lost your jobb and no pay and be hit with a conviction for attempted fraud. tread carefully. best way to destroy the original Wild Swans Concert Suite: II. Eliza Aria. The version on the TV add by Ola Rudner & Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The techno beat adds nothing as it appears to not understand the original. Nor does it appear to act as a counter point to the original voice or theme of the music. a Cheap and nasty mash up! original is majic, imitator is far less impressive. JP

are these spring failures as a result of corrosion. Never heard of it in my neck of the woods. must be crap steel! JP
-
I cannot see how a cut spring will fail, other than falling out of the cup when raised. When manufactured how do they detatch the wire from the reel after winding the coil. They cut it! cutting a coil of a spring will change its characteristics, will stop it from seating as well but wont cause it to snap or fall apart. I used cut springs 3.5 inches lower on heavily modified struts for 13 years on the road and track and never had a problem. However! if you can get them made to your needs all the better as insurance and MOT dont like owner modified elements no matter how safe. Justin P.

Thickness depends on how far apart the supports/ ceiling joists are. If they are 450mm or less apart id use 12.5 tapered edge tape and fill. otherwise youll get sagging between the joists and every joint will crack and your back to scratch. Anything above 450mm spacing and Id go thicker. 9.5 really only good on the wall. Carefull when lifting the thin stuff into the ceiling if you use it as it may snap. good luck, Justin P

Yet to add the yb, turbo, plumbing cooler 6 link and bigger wheels! And I dont think it will happen inless than 40 odd kgs. Where is your secret weight loss! Cheers, Justin p
