Are you painting it or having it painted by someone else?

Posted

i painted my entire car all i did was "rough it up a bit" you need to key the surface to give the paint something to stick to but you dont want to show all the scratch marks where you sandpapered it

so you need to give it a good going over with 600 grit wet and dry then degrease it

and then make sure its dry

you can either degrease it with fairy liquid and water and then dry it or degrease it with panelwipe or someone plz correct me if im wrong white spirit .

I don't think I would use white spirit to be honest, it seems quite oily, it may react. In honesty, I havn't used white spirit, I use panel wipe. But there are times when I don't have panel wipe, so I use Fairy Liquid and water... this works well, just make sure you rinse thouroughly, and dry.

600 grade Wet & dry is good, but if you go to a paint shop, you can get what are called 'Scotchbrights'. These come in 3 different colours... Green, Red or Grey. If you went out and bought a red one, your prep would be done in next to no time
