Doc Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 As some of you will remember my friend Palmer ( Palmer on this forum) was killed at sea just over a year ago . He had paid the deposit on a mk1 but passed away before it was his so in the aftermath it was never paid for . He had made plans with Retro to build a cologne capri with twin turbo power for track and road . So im now going to start to build Daves car . Itll take a good while but it always does . So if any of you have a stripped mk1 shell thats going very cheap let me know . Retro ill be in touch . steve
Admin Vista Posted May 5, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 5, 2007 As some of you will remember my friend Palmer ( Palmer on this forum) was killed at sea just over a year ago . Mate I didn't know that, real sorry to hear that. I've spent my whole working life at sea and hate to hear of bad things happening to other seafarers. Can't help with the shell but might know someone who can. I'll pm you his number. He's also an ex seafarer.
Richierich Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Sorry to hear that, good luck with the build!
Retromotorsport Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 This was a car yhat I and Palmer where excited about, It was something that i wanted to do, something bold, something that had eveything that a Thundersaloon/Special Saloon would have today. The brief was Mk1 Capri shell Colongne Kit Full Space frame inside but retaining some steel panels, ie. Roof, A.B and C pillars , sills and door openings , screen openings and rear panel Aluminium Honeycomb floors aluminium interior panneling (with removable sound deadening quilting in vinyl chequer stitch.) Full weld in Cage picking up on all critical points ( suspension and door hinges etc ) Suspension Full race 6 link with wide spaced multi adjustable link boxes low RC watts link (possible incar adjustment) double wishbone front suspension ride height adjustment of 40mm (with 35mm of bump) at Race height and 100mm road height, no part of the car should be lower than the 40mm measured at the flat floor's rubbing plates, these to be plastic /nylon 5mm thick disposable items Wheels 10x16 front (9x16 road) and 13x16 rears (10x16 road) BBS xwires or Compomotice CX. Engine Nissan twin turbo quad cam V6 (the closest we could find to a 3.4l GAA V6 (circa35k) Power around 400 road ..possible 600 race (with scope for more ) Aux systems Power steering driver adjuatable antiroll bars driver adjustable brake bias heater Colour undecided but possible the Broadspeed colours or a re-working of that period scheme. Thats was Palmers dream, it was costed up and action where put into motion, he never got to see the drawings that i had done, i never got to shake the mans hand for having the balls to have a car like this. Afterwards, Doc said he wanted to build it as a tribute to his friend, I said he would have to tone it down, but it can still be a cracking car and a fitting tribute. Doc ... i salute sir
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Commiserations & good luck with the project. Jeff Harris.
S2 Dee Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Doc, Go for it, I remember Palmers posts regarding what car to build. I wish you all the very best, in this the most noble of endevours. Dee
RFChris Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Doc, your a leg-end! And i think the man with no name, ie Wessie has a MK1 Capri that is suitable for the space-frame treatment.
Wessie Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 i've got a mk1 capper shell (floors gone and its not pretty) but would be ideal for tubbing, arching etc also got a fibreglass flip front and bootlid i dont want much for it as it sounds a great project

mossy Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 I look up to you sir...A great friend you must be, willing to take this on. Cannot wait to see it happening.
Doc Posted May 5, 2007 Author Report Posted May 5, 2007 Thanks guys . Wessie ill be in touch as soon as i sort things out .. Pm me ££ Ill need to plan it so i dont waste money or time on the wrong parts . The engine and gearbox are the simple thing. Chassis wise ill need to speak to retro but im thnking that it should be tubbed and if i get wessies car the flipfront could be to my advantage in fitting a tubular front end . Cologne arched and linked maybe with the chassis altered so the car is fixed into a lower postion , fully adjustable for road and track , Rolling on 16s Im not as minted as palmer was but ill get there eventually as i did with the xpack Ill use Retro for fabrication and Adam at Capri restoration as well . This time ill do as much of the work as i can , I know Budget wise and the with the final specification ill have to cut my cloth to suit but itll start real soon . Paint wise im going to design a Palmer race livery in black gold and red . One step at a time though
Gareth Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I remember Palmer from when I first joined.. I had no idea, I'm sorry for your loss.. Best of luck Doc
