buy a map. its cheaper, easier, more reliable

We've got a Tom Tom, was about £180 from Halfords. Is really good and easy to use. So far its always directed us to to the correct destination. I'd recommend to anyone.

i'v got a tom tom one think it was £175.00 ish very good got the speed camera's on it and it tells you your speed handy when speedo don't work

we use vdo at work and its bloody good, takes you to the exact house the 999 call is at

ive had the original tomtom one and got the new tomtom 510 now....i find they are the best out and so many mods available and,extra poi(points of intrests ) ,voices,etc ...and able to use phone has handsfree,connect ipod and more,all depending what model you get... i got it from currys and found out if you reserve it online and then pick up from store its cheaper the 510 and 710 model are the same apart from the 710 has us maps...910 has a 20gb hard drive for mp3 music + remote

Have used a mini pc thingimy before and could'nt get on with it at all, turned it off and used a map in in the end, Use my mates tom tom regularly, i think he got it from halfrauds for about £200 aswell, so whatever odel that is, and has never fooked up, taken me on 700 mile round trips without a problem, would highly reccomend

My last car had a Smartnav system fitted, Ive also had Tom Tom (the entry level one) as well and there both very good. You see these stories in the newspapers about drivers going into rivers and all that but mine have never sterred me wrong, and I drove 36,000 miles last year.

 

What I did like about the Smartnav system though was that it is updated every 5min for traffic conditions, jams etc and if theres an accident up ahead it will alert you and calculate an alternative route, although it's an expensive system when you compare it to a Tom Tom etc.

I use a PDA with TomTom, it's an Acer N35, you can pick them up new for about £130, then add TomTom. It works really well as it has a built in GPS reciever.

 

If you want just straight SatNav then I'd go for a TomTom one or similar, it's the best consumer navigation software without a doubt.

 

Shop around though, big variations in prices.

ive only been in one car with sat nav, my brothers mate was driving us to donnington and decided to listen to his sat nav instead of the knowledge of me (having only driven there about 60 times myself), and it decided to take us the long way round derby

 

have heard good things about them tho
