You are the very chap who I remember posting up on here last year asking for advice and help. I wanted to help and was only round the corner at the time, but I had to work. Anyway, what I am saying is this... Back then, you said you had very little mechanical knowledge... if any!!!

We have ALL been there, Those who have been here since day 1 will remember all of the problems I've come across, I had a MAD anoying problem where the car just kept losing power, changed all the ignition, Dizzy, etc etc turned out to be a knackered facet fuel pump!

I spent the last of my months wages getting my prop balanced only to find today a horrible groaning noise combined with random clangs and bangs and oil seeping out of the bell housing. I have tons of little bits and pieces I want to iron out but everytime I think I am getting there something else goes wrong. At the moment I am using the mex to commute to work because my old astra died a couple of weeks back. I had to take the day off work yesterday to get the prop sorted and now something else has broke. I am honestly getting really fooked off with the car and all the problems that go with it, like the neighbours moaning that I am in the street working on it every night. Well I am fookin sorry it's my only form of transport and I need it to get to work and can't afford to take it to a garage every fookin five minutes! Old nosey Bastards with nothing better to do all day than peer through curtains while they wait for the grim repear to do them a favour. I have had lot's of help from friends on this site and also massive support from emma and yes, good old mum. Without you lot I would have had to bin my OSF ages ago. So, am I alone here or is anyone else failing to see an OSF silver lining right now?

Luckily people came running over and pushed me off the road. I had a nose underneath and found the car was able to move while it was in gear and also that the prop didn't move while the car was rolling I am taking an educated guess at the diff being fooked Anyway Emma's MUM came and towed me back to the garage

She asked why don't you get a reliable little car like mine and before I could answer Emma said "where's the fun in that"

I know how you feel though. For nearly 4 years used my previous escort everyday and it behaved faultlessly.

 

BUT, I seem to always be underneath the one I have now sorting out ANOTHER problem . Blown engines, broken gearboxes,knackered alternators.

 

But when its doing what its supposed to do, its great

i felt like this over the past cupple of months with my mk1 "why bother, but its cold and shitty out side, its never gonna pass the mot anyway" but then i caught sight of the callender " SHIT 1 MONTH TILL CLASSIC FORD, ITS F**KING GOING THIS YEAR" since then ive put the engine back in ( was out for 8 months )and most of the other bits for the mot which it IS going for in the next 15 days.........i hope

Remember when the KLF burned one million quid? Well I feel like doing that to my car, the only difference being is at the moment my car is a worthless piece of sh*t anyway.

 

When I drove into the pub car park on Thursday the first thing I saw was your MK1 standing out above every other car and look’in the bollox. Your MK1 is fook’in sweet and not by any means is it a worthless piece of sh*t. I totally understand how your feeling right now and as everyone else has said you need to take a step back and sort your Astra out first.

Owning an OSF isn’t easy they cost a fortune to build and even more to keep on the road. I’ve owned my ’53 Anglia for nearly two years now and I’m still a bloody long way off getting it finished. Over the past two years I’ve brought two Anglia’s, an extra chassis and I’ve travelled up and down the country buying more spare parts than you can wave a stick at. I know it’s probably gonna take me another couple of years to finish it but what keeps me going is that one day I will get to drive it to a meet and park up next to all the other sweet OSF’s and have people look at my work the way I look at cars like yours.

We've all been in same situation at some time, I remember when I had my MK1 Sceptre, coming in from the garage and telling the misuss I was going to scrap it whe I discovered the front inner wheel arches were made of fibreglass but I repaired them, even if I did set my overalls on fire in the process...

 

Now I try to look at like this... when you have sorted one job out, think 'now the car is better... so it's worth sorting out the XYZ...' then when you've sorted that, the car is better still, so it's worth sorting something else out... sounds a bit daft I know, but it's worked for me in the past.

 

I would also seriously look at sorting the Astra or getting another daily driver... I think not having to rely on the Escort would make all the difference.

Johnny mate i am well and truly fcuked off with my osf too, I had been searching for a good 1 for ages and when 1 popped up I snatched it up without a second thought. I paid too much for it for a start. this was about 5 months ago and it was 98% complete, I STILL havn't even got it fired up, near got completly screwed with the registration cuz the fella that i bought it off didnt bother to mention it was a bit fcuked up to say the least, needs new bushes all over, new exhaust, brake pipes, the list goes on, at least yours goes and you havn't got the urge to kill or maim, keep the chin up, it's all i've been doing the past 5 months well get through it in the end though

Getyour reliable runaround sorted m8, or buy a banger with some ticket on for a few hundres, lock your escort away in the garage and hust forget about it for 6 months, when the bad times lessen in your memory and you finally remember that you got a sweet osf tucked away, it will be like having a new car all over again with the excitment

i am i was promised that my engine will be finished last saturday then he said defo wendesday then he said saturday and today hes saying definately monday so im sitting here doing fook all coz ive fully preped everything and refurbed all my bits for last saturday and i still have no fooking engine. plus i dodnt have a clue wat its gonna cost me so ive not spent a penny in 4 weeks so far its very paint full and im proper stressed out coz i know if i wait anylonger something else will go wrong for example caliper pistons sieze or sumin. i rele wanted to be at ace this month but its looking doubtfull being as i only have 5 day (thats if i get my engine on monday) i wanted it run in by saturday too

i left it saved a few pennies and battered into it ! well Adam did anyway !!and shes doen but she will break and thats the territory with these cars.

 

Park her up buy a shitter to get to work and come back to her on a sunny sunday and get it sorted . You lnow it makes sense

It's not easy to explain, but it's in the blood! I'm 40 years old this year, my parents always had Fords, my first car was a Ford, I've owned hundreds of different cars in my lifetime, and here I am now.. owning a 40 year old Ford!! Yeah things do go wrong but as my mate at work says 'it's all about the journey!' You and I know you just wouldn't be happy with any thing else. I work on french, japanese and ford cars and all the new stuff is crap. cars are not for drivers anymore!

 

As others have said, just take a step back for a day, week, whatever it takes, You know it makes sense......

I know how this feels

Just spent a fortune on the Fiesta only to still not have it running 100%, and its time and money that i could be spending on my MK2 Tina.

I have now made the painful decision to sell the Fiesta on and buy a modern car as a daily hack for work.

This will allow me to concentrate on my Tina which i wanted to go to Symonds Yat this year which it won't be

 

But like already mentioned a modern hack cheap just to get you out of trouble or to have in case the classic starts playing up is a good idea

i had a heavily modified mk5 Cortina that i drove for less than 1000 miles... she was forever going wrong... in the end i took her off the road and started stripping her to convert her into a replica of NHK244V... i even bought all the engine, running gear and suspension set up... once i took her apart i lost all interest then i split up with my ex and because the V5 was in his name he kept her...

 

BUT

 

I always wanted a gold 4 door Cortina and I bought Nina cheap from Ebay. she needed minor welding for her MOT and she's been my daily for the best part of 2 years. she's not pretty but i love her to bits, and i think its the love thing that really counts. you have to "love" your car or its not worth it... i driven other cars but none of them have made me feel the way Nina does...

3 times in the last year my clutch has gone (despite a new heavy duty assembly) and, no, I ain't a boy racer. The first time the new thrust bearing went so the whole box had to come out then 6 months later the cable broke, and last week the fookin clip on the pedal broke. I could go on and on but........

The mark 3 is in the garage under major restoration (started as a tart up now the whole car needs work) so I am using the Mk1 (valued at £4k as a daily runner. Keep at it mate as getting the thumbs up from a boring eurobox driver really makes it worth it
