RFChris Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Right then.... If you were going to build a car soley for track days etc, how much would you be willing to spend? Don't think about how much you can afford, just think about it a real-world sense. What would you deem as sensible? Discuss.....
GT_Jim Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 realistically 3 -4k but it would depend on the car, what do you have in mind?
DEP Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 I think its just about spending money in the right place, Decent supension and brakes dont need to cost a fortune, and not forgetting some half decent tyres.
Pye Man Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 I guess it depends on how serious you want to go. If you just want to dip your toe in the water and have a bit of cheap fun then obviously you will want to spend a little. If you want to be serious and maybe competative, money will have to be spent. All down to what you want to do.
caprifan Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 ...if its not based on how much I can actually afford then I would buy a car thats been designed to be driven on a track, so lots of £££££...
negri Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 heres two evo 2s for sale. 2k for the both of them , one needs an engine . could probably make one good car out of them both . http://www.lancerregister.com/showthrea ... did=152783 or heres a turbo lancer for 2400 http://www.lancerregister.com/showthrea ... did=152005 that ones sold though

If you just want to dip your toe in the water and have a bit of cheap fun then obviously you will want to spend a little. If you want to be serious and maybe competative, money will have to be spent. All down to what you want to do. You can't be competitive on a trackday .... no ovetaking after the brake board, no overtaking on the left or right down the straights etc .. Blacl Flagged for anything approaching racing .. so what would i do ??? £500 5 Series BMW off ebay Too overtake any cars at a trackday you need fantastic " out of corner speed" .. the speed you go though the corners dictates what speed the others follow you round it, same as the car infront, you have to follow him and punch past on the exit.
andrewg1323 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 All depends what class and how competative you want to be!
RFChris Posted May 16, 2007 Author Report Posted May 16, 2007 All depends what class and how competative you want to be! No class, just for general RWYB track days and alike.
mossy Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 pug 205 gti...mate has one and its wicked! decent suspension, brakes, tyres....strip out with a couple of buckets and harness's. Easily done for £2-3k ... depending if second hand parts are used eg seats.
mk2_escort_chick Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 pug 205 gti...mate has one and its wicked! Dad has a 205 1.9 Gti- I love her!! Non sunroof model too- lil bit rarer
Mk 1 Mark Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 E30 325 touring LSD straight six.... 170 + bhp RWD and loads of fun.. I have spent about £800 on it but it has new brakes discs shocks sport gearbox chipped ecu And it goes really well and is an excellent everyday/Trackday car

That's the case at most trackdays, but up here we've got Crail! Stunning fun as there's no coned corners... (and virtually no rules!). Me at a Crail trackday in my daily driver (admittedly quite a bit of a lairy daily driver!) without a tin top
RFChris Posted May 16, 2007 Author Report Posted May 16, 2007 erm isnt this a ford site Indeed.....nice ideas and all, but was thinking in terms of a Ford.
Twinkle Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 just do what you normally do chris, log on to ebay and pick the cheapest car in the classic ford section that finishes in the next minute and buy it
Burns Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 i'll take my fiesta if i manage to get a warm 1600 in it
Twinkle Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 just do what you normally do chris, log on to ebay and pick the cheapest car in the classic ford section that finishes in the next minute and buy it ok maybe not the ideal tackday car
caprifan Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 just do what you normally do chris, log on to ebay and pick the cheapest car in the classic ford section that finishes in the next minute and buy it ...and then sell it the next day/week/month/ *delete as appropriate...
negri Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 just do what you normally do chris, log on to ebay and pick the cheapest car in the classic ford section that finishes in the next minute and buy it ok maybe not the ideal tackday car you could alway use this for taking to the track if the car aint going to be road legal
Retromotorsport Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 I know its a Ford site... but when it comes to an OSF you are going to be hard pushed to get a suitable trackday car for £500-£1000.. A £1000 anything is probably rusty and or has an engine thats on its last legs
Gareth Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 I'd spend as little as possible 'cuz I'm a tight git

CLICK Plenty of other stuff that's not quite as 'ready to go' for that money too like 4 door escorts and late Cortinas, or go a bit newer and there's plenty of sporty 80s Fords to choose from.
Arched Escy Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Old Scooby,stripped Sierra (V8) or a Mk3 Capri.
