4 door into 2 door?

I've been told that with a skilled welder you could make a 4 door into a 2 door handy enough? does antone know about this? The reason the fella said this is because the roof skins are exactly the same size and all that you would need is 2 2 door rear quarter panels and replace the b posts, he said that if someone wqas good with a welder they could do it, what do you's think? I'm not considering it or anything, just wondering

technically its do-able but its a hell of a lot of work as you'd need to replace inner and outer skins

Might as well rebuild the hwole shell froms cratch if you;re going that far!

mk2 escorts have a different roof so itl need a roof swap rear panels 2 doors and other bits

I'm sure the MK2 roof is the same but look at a MK1 and they are different around the door area / drip rail area.

 

It is possible and perhaps it has been done but getting it to look like it hasn't would be the hardest part!

 

Why would you when you can still find 2 door shells at reasonable cost when compared with the work you would do to convert?

 

It would be a project to watch though if/when somebody has a go!

you couldnt just replace the outside skin as the inside would still be 4 door so youd have to get inner rear quarters too.

 

for the sake of removing two doors is it really worth it

not 100% sure about escorts but on most cars where there is a 2 door and 4 door model available, the door of the 2 door is longer to alow more room to get into the back seat, so you would need 2 new front doors and have to move the pillar between the two doors aswell as weling the back up,

 

id just save my money and buy a 2 door

Steve mk2, yeah the pillars are different but the roof panel itself in between the drip rails, and the top of all the pillars is the same.
