Osgood Isgood Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Just trawing the autotrader site and there is a 65 mk1 Lotus for sale at £35k!!!!!! Surely this is silly money, even for a great car such as this?
Rick Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 bargain.... not even a museum will cough that up lol
105Speed Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Thats what I love about this forum... people are quick to comment on the price of things and the value of things they really know very little about. That car is a full blown FIA Rally Car, with FIA, RAC & FIVA papers, aswell as a proven competitive history and has well recongnised names who have restored and prepared the car as well as done the engine on it. And for that kind of motor £35k is CHEAP.... Were it a circuit racer rather than a rally car it would be nearer £45,000
Chris! Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 that sure is cheap for a lotus, minters can go for £60,000
Jay_harrier Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 You only have to look around at the Historic rally cars for sale, I saw a mint MK1 Escort up for £68k, works cars go for big bucks - one of the Vatinnen MK2 cars allegedly sold for six figures - heritage & provenance make a massive difference.
GT_Jim Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 fully preped its a good price, it would be difficult to do that yourself for that money id have it but i dont carry that amount of change
lotusless Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Thats what I love about this forum... people are quick to comment on the price of things and the value of things they really know very little about. you tell em mate cars are worth whatever someone will pay for them!!!!

over_head_cam Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 that's what I love about this forum. You can express your opinions on whatever you want, even if you don't know what you're talking about without geting flamed. Oops my bad
DarrenM Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 its only worth as much as the twat who wants it hands over
Osgood Isgood Posted May 27, 2007 Author Report Posted May 27, 2007 Thats what I love about this forum... people are quick to comment on the price of things and the value of things they really know very little about. Well that told me didn't it!! As the man in the orthapaedic shoes said "I stand corrected!" Could have done without the patronising put down though, after all we aint all kin experts!!!
105Speed Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 Thats what I love about this forum... people are quick to comment on the price of things and the value of things they really know very little about. Well that told me didn't it!! As the man in the orthapaedic shoes said "I stand corrected!" Could have done without the patronising put down though, after all we aint all kin experts!!! If you aint an expert then dont comment... Its better to say nothing and look a bit daft than to post and confirm it I nipped it in the bud because I could see the post going on for pages, as has happened before, where a load of people slagging off someones car saying its not worth whats being asked. Now you have to look at that two ways... Firstly, it could be your car next time that a group of people who dont know it decide to slag off and say you want too much for it, if you were selling that is, OR The person who actually owns the car hears about the forum, joins up, only to find a load of people saying he wants too much for his car. Hardly good for OSF is it... Had you asked 'Lotus Cortina £38,000 whats that all about ?' Then the response would have been different and you would have learnt something along the way...
105Speed Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 its only worth as much as the twat who wants it hands over So.. following this logic.. Someone who could have worked hard and saved for 20 years to fulfil a childhood dream to go rallying in a Lotus Cortina, sees this car, wants to buy it therefore he is a Twat ? Someone who has perhaps inherited some money from the death of his parents and decides he wants to use some of the money to go historic rallying, is therefore a twat ? Someone who has drummed up some sponsorship, got a team together and wants to go rallying in Historics is therefore a twat ?
Osgood Isgood Posted May 27, 2007 Author Report Posted May 27, 2007 Had you asked 'Lotus Cortina £38,000 whats that all about ?' As it happens my original post was.... "Surely this is silly money, even for a great car such as this?" I aint some green horn at this lark you know, I have been into classics for some 20 years now and I do have a fairly good idea of the value of most classic cars and at first glance this one genuinely surprised me that's all! Perhaps if I'd read and fully digested the blurb that went with the ad I may have had a better idea of it's provenence! As for the "if you aint an expert don't comment"..idea, it would make for a pretty quiet message board if we could only comment on topics on which we were expert surely? Any road up I aint going to fall out over this me old mate, lets just agree that on this particular topic I was wrong and move on ok!
Rick Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 id say all opinions are valid myself one mans trash is another mans treasure personally id say for what it is its expensive. thats because id enjoy a car like that just as much regardless of any history that came with it. a collector on the other hand would enjoy it moreso due to that fact. you cant slate people for having an opinion and im sure it wasnt intended to mock or put down the car. now lets all play nicely
