RUSTYPUP Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Bugger. Bugger. Bugger. Drove away from the pub at lunch and had no oil pressure. Found pressure relief valve stuck open. Just went out with mrs. Rustypup to practise her launches for Sunday. Thought I'd show her one myself..... Did a bit of a rolling burnout and it cut out. When it restarted it had absolutely no oil pressure and sounds like a diesel. Relief valve doesn't appear to be stuck this time. Hoping its still a pump/ relief problem and that the noise is just empty hydraulic lifters. Maybe I'm just dreaming though. Vauxhall kak.

RUSTYPUP Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 Cheers guys. Thanks for that Johnny!! Exactly what I wanted to post but couldn't bring myself to look at the badge.
RUSTYPUP Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 Possibly good news........ Oil pump has exploded!! Gears in many pieces and taken out the housing with them. Also no swarf/debris in sump. Could I be lucky enough to have saved it? New pump and jobs a goodun?? Don't know but fingers crossed
Noodles Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 oi! Who are you oi-ing? Nout wrong with vauxhall
Admin Vista Posted June 6, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 6, 2007 oi! Who are you oi-ing? Nout wrong with vauxhall What apart from the obvious? How long did you run it with no oil pressure? Bearings will wipe very quickly when the oil pressure goes, I'd be worried about your bores and cams too.
RUSTYPUP Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 only ran for seconds with no oil pressure. Was a bit worried too about the bearings so I dropped them off a minute ago. They are not brilliant so it's got to come out. Here ends my chances of getting it done for the weekend. A bit of good news is that the crank still looks ok
johnny_h Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Gutted mate. Who sold you this broken ass lump of 16 valvery?
1600e_princess Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 please fix it rustypup or there will be no racing this weekend for you (and me...! )
RUSTYPUP Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 Engine is ready to come out. Got to go to bed now though. Found an engine in Ashford that has a snapped cambelt. I'm thinking use that bottom end and my head. Going to try to find a way of picking up the other dead engine tomorrow. I'm working tonight but then have a clear 24hrs to get it done. It's a long shot, but it just might work
Admin Vista Posted June 7, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 7, 2007 Do XE's valves and pistons not meet when the cambelt goes then?
RUSTYPUP Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 Yep. Thats why I'm going to use my head and the one with the snapped cam belts bottom end. I don't envisage there being any real piston damage, but I'm new to this Vauxhall shite so who knows?!
