I once topped up the oil in a crossflow with the car still on the jack and put way too much in.

After a few miles the exhaust started to belch out smoke and in the end I had to pull over because the inside of the car was full and I couldn't see to drive any more.

Once I drained some of the oil out it was fine,no damage done.

other than seals what damage can you do by putting too much oil in then ?

with oldskool motors that is, i guess u could kill the cat or the lambda sensers etc on modern stuff

a mate of mine once checked his G/friends car oil level , and commented it was a bit low

but he didnt have any to top it up

he went to work , and her dad called in , she mentions the oil level to dad ,

oh ill see to that he says ...

so he only fills it to the BRIM of the cap

from what i can gather the engine now has extreamly low compression..... its starts and runs in tickover really sweet but as soon as you touch the gas pedal smoke everwhere and if you try to put it into gear it dies before the car even thinks of moving.

ooo... that was my 600th post :D

not too sure but maybe runnning it for a while with the proper amount of oil in it .

the compression will come up again ? sounds like maybe oil has got onto the bores ?

you could maybe get a oil treatment for it to . might help build up the compression again
