antz Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 right! here we go! foir ages ive been thinking of what engien to power the terracotta terror when i get the money. and after many hours of thinking ive come down to the fact it MUST be xflow power but here is where my problem is. do i: A) get a 1600 with the intentions of boring it out to 1700 and make a lairy 1700. OR stick to my 1300GT and get it bored out to 1390 and make a lairy 1300. thing is i like the idea of a 1600/1700 but everyone goes for that option and i like to be different. plus i like the idea of keeping my original engine and making a bals out 1300 xflow. but the cost of doing a 13 would be higher than a 16 i guess. so 13 or 16? which would you choose?
flyingbanana Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 i had 1300cc now have a 1600cc which i believe is bored out....so much more power ....so i voted 1600cc
caprixpack Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Well awhile ago I asked the same sort of question and got this reply from my dad “There’s no replacement for displacement” which I guess means you can get more power from a bigger engine
escort greg Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 No point spending loads of money to make a 1300 go like a standard 1600.....
Davecara Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 As said before, spend mega bucks to make a 1300 go like a std 1600 or spend the same on a balls out 16/1700? I'd go 1600 all day long
sambo Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 1600 no question mate. Absolutley no point spending cash and time on a 1300 to get the same results as just putting in a 1600 lump. Quicker, easier and in the long run you can tune that engine to get even more power....
antz Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 looks like its a unanimous vote so far! ive heard of 1.3 xflows pushing 140bhp though
emu Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 A 140bhp 1.3 crossflow is going to be more stressed than a 140bhp 1.6 crossflow.
Fiesta Steve Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 it MUST be xflow power thing is i like the idea of a 1600/1700 but everyone goes for that option and i like to be different. the cost of doing a 13 would be higher than a 16 i guess. If you like to be different go 1600 x-flow as everybody is quick to ditch them in favour of the Pinto !! Also the cost of tuning a 1300 wouldn't be any more expensive than the 1600, the only difference is you will get far less return for your money.
antz Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 good point steve! pinto is out of the question.
Fiesta Steve Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 looks like its a unanimous vote so far! ive heard of 1.3 xflows pushing 140bhp though To get that sort of power from a 1300, peak power would be up near around the 8000 rpm mark. It would probably need steel crank (£1450) and steel rods (£700) and forged pistons (£500) to make that amount of power. I have 150 bhp in my 1600 with standard internals.
antz Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 hmmm......im not spending that much on a 1.3 i knew it would be expensive but not that much! fook it i think ill get the 17
Jay_harrier Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 looks like its a unanimous vote so far! ive heard of 1.3 xflows pushing 140bhp though & big bore 1600/1700+ x-flows can make 180.... but they're all steel & cost big money
Mr.Sumo Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 proper built 1600 Antz....that gets my vote all day long
james p Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 i have both the 1600 is much beter mate if your at that retro show you can have a go
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2007 No point spending loads of money to make a 1300 go like a standard 1600..... My thoughts exactly, it will cost you much more to uprate a 1300 to end up with the performance of a 1600 than it would to fit a 1600 in the first place, so unless you're going racing in a class for 1300cc engines there's not a lot of point.
arch Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 i voted 1300 antz because i love the idea of a small sized lairy x-flow if i had a 1300 in myn i would doit to myn but its a 1600 so ill prob get a another and do it to tht but if i were u i would go an get a another 1300 to do it to so uv still got the oringanal lump but i do love srceaming 1700 1s to lol
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 i have both the 1600 is much beter mate if your at that retro show you can have a go im hoping to be there so if i am ill take you up on that offer i think the 1600 wins......now...better get raiding the loft for some junk to sell
Gareth Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I voted 1300 because it's different 1300 x/f's like to rev, just as easy to tune as a 1600. and it'll annoy folk even more when u say they were beat by a 1300
