Rick Posted June 22, 2007 Author Report Posted June 22, 2007 never understood camebelts, if they break your engine fooks itself cant beat a good old chain driven crossflow
escort21 Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 never understood camebelts, if they break your engine fooks itself cant beat a good old chain driven crossflow Amen brother
Noodles Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 On a standard pinto if the belt goes it does no damage so ive heard its only when you start increasing the valve openings it will do some damage
Admin Vista Posted June 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 23, 2007 never understood camebelts, if they break your engine fooks itself cant beat a good old chain driven crossflow Goes into technical blurb mode. Because there are less components involved, the engine has less mass to rotate in the course of producing power. It also leaves more room in the block for cooling passages etc as you don't need pushrod spaces. I've shamelessly poached an extract from Wikipedia and pasted it below. Plus if people changed their cambelts at the prescribed intervals there wouldn't be a problem, 9 out of 10 cambelt failures happen when people try to save money by ignoring maintenance, always a schoolboy error. The SOHC design has less reciprocating mass than a comparable pushrod design. This can allow for higher engine speeds, which in turn will increase power output for a given torque. The cam operates the valves directly or through a rocker arm as opposed to overhead valve pushrod engines, which have tappets, long pushrods and rocker arms to transfer the movement of the lobes on the camshaft in the engine block to the valves in the cylinder head
Gonzo Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Bikes still use chain [or gear in honda's case...] driven cams.
over_head_cam Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Darrens corsa rattles a bit at Idle. I reckon it's a lazy follower.
Rick Posted June 23, 2007 Author Report Posted June 23, 2007 its now more of clatter than a rattle must sort it out before it turns from a clatter to a bangbang

Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I have been there mate... they can be a right nightmare. I used a bit of scaffold pole on the body of the pump, and used a f*** off club hammer. It smashed the pump to pieces, but it came out eventually
