my rs2 is about 95% preped for painting so how much do we spend on paint all i want is 2 pack paint doors bonnet and boot painted seperate and engine bay painted and of coarse the body so how much

You can get a cheap one from £800 but average for a pukka job is about

£2000.

got mine painted in 2k, couple of yrs back, i spent £50 on paint, and £40 for a mate to spray it... he even supplied the rocket,hardener and thinners..... just wish i had prepped it better....

 

 

but unless you got a v nice mate, your gona spend around a grand..

All depends on what sort of job you want m8,basically you get what you pay for,dont be tempted to get a cheap job as you may not be happy with it and could cost you more in the long run

The cost is maily in the prep mate aswell as the quality of the final job

 

And the prep is the long,boring and shit job, only takes a short while to actually get the paint on.

 

I was lucky on my rs i did all the prep!(i hate it!!) and my mate done the final coats inside and out in his oven for £400, but as he said for it to be booked in and if he had to do preep and paint it etc would of been between £1500 and £2k

 

As said don't go for a cheap blowover mate, unless its a dail hack that you are probobly gonna scrap in 12 months when mot runs out like

They never look quite right if you know what i mean, better to wait and save for a decent job.

 

Also i would use a bodyshop that has been recomended by someone you know/trust as however flashy and profesional they may look on the outside don't mean Sh*t for the quality of the job, my dad has been caught like that, always go on reccomendations and reputations

dont pay a fortune 4 sum idiot to do it,

for that money you can buy a compressor spray equipment and even central heat/extractor fan your garage

bit of practice too

For a proper job you need more than some 'idiot'

 

and spraying is definitly a skill, so buying all the equipment is'nt really gonna do you much good without being spot on with the ability to use it!

skills arent aquired without learning them

you could pay 1000quid and end up like 'doc' with his capri,

and im sure he could have done better

some colours are easier than others. Mine is sort of beige/gray, and I have prepared to spray it myself. Payd about £200 ish for paint, thinner and hardener, another £20 for the gun. I know it wont look mint afterwards but surely better than it has for the last 25 years, and it wont rust as fast. Waiting and "saving up" can be false economy in the humid climate over here

mine was at the painters for 3 months, they painted the shell inside and out and painted the stripes on £4600

i did well over 10 hours of sanding and taking bits off and i sprayed it myself with a compressor in matt black, no end of people said whats the point its all going to flake off in a month over a year and a half later and all is fine

 

ok i got a few runs down the wing and rear 1/4 but on a £250 car and a £26 paint job you really dont care, and you dont over worry about it getting scratched within a week

Hope you did not use 1 component white spirit based paint. It will be a pain in the proverbial if you ever decide to do it properly

i dont know, i was at school i told my mum to buy "matt black" she came back with the cheapest black paint she could find but it did have an under coat and an overcoat

I painted my dads capri. First time Ive ever sprayed anything properly. Did it in cellulose. outside. Apart from a bit of blooming on the roof it came out pretty good I reckon. Cost about a ton in total for paint and thinners.

i know it looks great but you can do the prep work yourself.

various grades of wet and dry and lots of hard work, you can get it to a marble like finish before you paint it.

 

i just dont know how they justify it

Paint and materials were probaly £1000 on there own.

If the standard is very good,then £4600 for inside/out/underside/strips is a bargin.

i think the previous owner of my escort had a cheap quick fix, looks like its on thick coat of paint, the roofs cracking badly so i will be spending more money on that hopefully next year cos every time i look at it i think how bad it is.

 

on the subject of paint, does anyone know of all the original mustang colours and got pictures of the colours? wanting to see if they are any different to ford uk colours

i am not gona say what mine cost incase the mrs see's this lol "but it was a bit more than retro al's" that was also at the painters about 4 months and the paint was ici so you know it wasnt cheap!!

I decided to do mine myself, purely on the basis that I don't have £2k+ to get it done professionally, and I want it back on the road.

 

I bought a small compressor and enough paint for the whole car for about £250. I'm doing it in stages, as firstly with 3 kids I only get a few spare hours here and there, and secondly by concentrating on one panel at a time I don't rush it, and make sure I get the prep just right.

 

So far its gone ok - its never going to be nearly as good as a professional, but I'm not building a show car - I just want it to look reasonably presentable.

I too plan on giving my Mk1 a go, as what have I got to lose, except a bit of time and some money for materials...my car will never be a show car, but I just want it to look nice and to have a bit of fun in..

 

Mind you, that stage is a couple of months off.....
