All I did was try to reverse it quick round a corner and it went bang I don't know what damage i've done but I know it's serious! ArghhhHHH!

Who knows, but i just spoke to a mate and he reckons you need the light to work, but not the gear.....oddly. But when you think about it, you can MOT an Isetta Bubble Car! No reverse on that!

reverse lights are not tested on an mot. mine passed without them

I heard you didnt need reverse lights as they were a driver aid. I still need a new gearbox though!

depends... the testers will get pretty shitty... but as long as the rest of the car is good i doubt they will fail u for it

If your testing station is like mine, you'll have to reverse it off the ramp after the test....

I might as well give up then coz the windscreen wipers don't work and I can't figure out why. I'm screwed. Back to the garage it goes for another month at least!

my reverse went a few years ago....new gearbox mate.....does it keep jumping out

It goes into reverse (position) but doesn't reverse

I reckon it'll need to work for them to reverse out of the brake rollers though!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate, but, all 4 wheeled cars need reverse as a legal requirment. The lights though are not a nessesity.

 

It all depends on the tester, but I have my doubts. I know that alot of people fit motor bike engines in Mini's (also other cars) and they convert one front driveshaft/disc with a ring gear to fit a starter motor to. This modification alloes the car to be reversed, and as has been said about these mods, "they need this to legally pass an MoT"

 

Best of luck anyway, just take it down there and say it has just happened and see what they say!

well the bubble car never had a reverse...dont know if that would help if you said that to them

mine has no reverse lights and it passed fine

 

i'll bet yours are integrated though! - the cortina ones are an option and sit below the bumper-i have a foglight on there bit its not connected to anything- it just looks good. i had to remove it for it to pass though- can you do the same?

 

just tell them its a racing modification and theres no reverse gear in there.

you live on a slope, its not a daily driver and the missus refuses to frive it at all.

mention a straight cut box and a silly ratioand some of the quarter mile times you've had outta it- keep a straight face, but laugh about the time you beat an Mr2 up the strip... its all about the blag
