Noodles Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 What classes as a hot rod and a street rod compared to standard cars?????
thelastbandit Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 As I understand it (and I could be wrong) a hot rod is an old style car, 30's, 40's or early 50's that is a stripped down big motored beastie, where as a Street Rod is a more luxurious version of the hot rod, with billet alloy in bucket loads, big i.c.e etc,etc
X-pack-Glyn Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Classic hot rods are alowed tuned pintos and crossflows where as stock rods have standard engines. not sure what the deal is now with lighting rods though.
60ftman Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 As far as I understand, 'Hot Rod' refers to a modified pre-50's car that has a flat windscreen. 'Street Rod' is virtually anything else that's modified. 'Custom' is specifically an RS 2000 (I should know)! It's good to see that the 'Hot Rod' boys (NHRA) don't welcome 'late model' rods at their races or shows. Gives you a warm feeling inside, doesn't it?
X-pack-Glyn Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 are we talking about oval hot rods here
60ftman Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Er......well.......I wasn't. Maybe grabbed that big old stick by the wrong end again. Ignore me............all of my family do
X-pack-Glyn Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 my mate said "can you help me with my hot rod" i raced round there expecting a sweet x-flo in a mk1/2 scort or an anglia... i found a satin black rat x pack capri with a rover v8 in it and a tubbed back end
FlashCadillac Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 the NHRA at there true rod shows only let pre 1948 cars on the show field i know this caused a lot of complaints.... but its a rod show... so rods only lol true hot rods are balls out drag racers.... streetrods still have the sponge bit on the seat
Nettles Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 A “HotRod” is a stripped down/Back to basics car with a larger more powerful tuned engine installed. A “Street Rod” is basically a luxury HotRod usually with a custom paint job and completely re-vamped interior.
sparkycapri Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 glyn:- lighting rods are 20L pintoed sierras for oval short circuit racing
