CapriBoy Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Could this work? And is there much stuff out there to tune up v12 jag engines? or are they just poo. Opinions plz.
Copey Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 if you could fit it in, go for it, and you probably wouldnt need to do too much tuning to it, and ford own jag, so might not ba too hard to fit
CapriBoy Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 im talkin bout the old skool XJS V12s, back in the day before ford owned jag
Popuptoaster Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 TWR used to take them out to 7.4 litre and 750bhp so the stuff must be out there, the V12 is alloy but i suspect it will still be heavier, way longer and more expensive to tune, maintain and buy than an american V8.
BIGKEV Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 www.jagracing.co.uk - go there for links them engines are proper mental  :twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted: :twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted: :twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:
Rick Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 if you can afford the petrol go for it theres actually a doris at my work nicknamed Jag or 'high milage jag' cuz she gobbles a lot of juice
Gibson Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 i almost went for it... i lined one up again my capri and it will physically fit. but it would need a fook load of fabrication for engine mounts. repositionint the Rad. etc
ann_capri Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 hi their mate think you would have to flip front poss? ive seen one in a herald a few years back so if it will go in their than y not but herald as got a flip front
capriaddict Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 There used to be a cologne arched MK1 in wales that had a jag engine in it, I think it was a straight six though. So it should be possible but it would mean a lot of fabrication work in the engine bay
CapriBoy Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 true, no1s ever done it as far as i know, so all the fabricatin could well be worth it
Gonzo Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 I'd go for it, but then I'm a bit mad for odd conversions like that. At least you'd be the only bloke who's got one.
sparkycapri Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 a mate if mine is in the process of fitting one in his vauxhall VX490 estate he tried to make it fit his PC cresta (very big car bit like mk 4 zodiac) but it wouldnt fit!! if you wanted to stuff one in a capri i think there would be a lot of body mods as it is a very large & wide engine. good luck! if you are serious i can find out what he had to do.
Popuptoaster Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I think you'll be cutting a large hole in the bulkhead for the back 4 cylinders and mahoosive gearbox.
pierce Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 the HE v12 produces 300 bhp. the engine can be bored to a 10ltr. i'l get the website for AJ6 engineering from work but tunning is expensive
FBF Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 you already said it in your post, they are poo. get a yank V8 to do the job properly, bulletproof and tunable. you either want a 350 small block chevy or a 302 ford small block they are the easist to tune and parts are in massive supply even in the UK. i have a 345 IH V8 if you wanted something with grunt? yours for 300 quid
JAY PS Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Wasnt the guy who built the slightly stretched firbeglass mk1 that was built back in 80s running a v12 ,i saw the car at rushmoor on good friday ,still doing the show circuit after all these years I thought that to get the engine in hed added a foot to the front wings !
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 i bought a capri of a bloke once whoa had a v12 jag and was planning to put the v12 in but then just ended up selling both seperatly he said hed measured up and it should fit go for it
Mart Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 it'll sound awesome and go like stink DO IT!!!
60ftman Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 you already said it in your post, they are poo. get a yank V8 to do the job properly, bulletproof and tunable. you either want a 350 small block chevy or a 302 ford small block they are the easist to tune and parts are in massive supply even in the UK. i have a 345 IH V8 if you wanted something with grunt? yours for 300 quid Absolutely. Buy a Jag engine for 50 quid and then spend a zillion quid on it for tuning and every time it goes wrong. OR Buy a big old Yank V8 for a few hundred quid, a decent set of pistons for a couple of hundred, a nutty cam for 90 quid etc etc. You'll be upping 500 brake before you know it, and (£ for £) blow the jag engine into the weeds! But don't use a Chevy 'cos they aint Fords!!!!!
FBF Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 But don't use a Chevy 'cos they aint Fords!!!!! hahaha id rather push my chevy than drive a ford... oh hang on this may not be the best forum to admit that.. what with ,me owning a ford too..
Slik 50 Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 This is a turbo'ed Jag engine fitted to a mk2 granny, it runs 10 seconds and has around 500 BHP apparently
