RETRO_AL Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Cheers for the replys guys but i am still undecided! I hear that the Atmo cossies were the daddies at the last retro ford brands track day?? cossie matts was the daddies (always is) has he can drive, and the car is so well set up the turbos cars were just spinning at every bend ie kev/ pi g i never got chance to give mine some as it kept on cutting out we all know n/a power is delivered better but i still reckon a well set up turbo car will be very good, look at baileys cossie turbo mk2 xpack that thing owned everything on the track back in the day,and thats because he has grip which a lot of the turbo cars dont seem to have if you want turbo power go for it
escort greg Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Well thats strange because ive had my cossy lump at 300bhp+ for five years now and i dont recall it blowing up....come to think of it ive had to replace head gasket and turbo in those five thrashed years thats not bad if you ask me....and ive always thought atmo cossy lumps as strange why why why do something to an engine that was designed to be turbo,d no disrespect intended to the atmo crew

puddy Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I'm just asking , has anyone seen a 300 bhp turbo engine keep up with a 220 bhp atmo screamer anywhere except at high speed on the motorway . I you want to do 150 mph just buy a £500 3.5 litre bmw instead , at least it won't explode every week !!!!!!!! You still ain't answered my questions gary? And a cossie on a 3.75 diff with 13" wheels ain't gonna do 150mph! Mine did 122mph flat out @ brunters, fast car feature 1991,285 bhp conversion, standard everything ,never missed a beat . Wheres your proof? puddy
escort greg Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Yep agree with ya there retro all And puddy....yer right mine did 125mph flat out on a 3.75 diff with 13,s as well
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 my twopennorthworth I prefer the turbo YB....even though mines broke the legendary turbo reliabilty strikes again .

Guest MK1gaz Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Yep i've never got any proof , i'm just dreaming about all the broke turbo cars that only work for 5 mins
RETRO_AL Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Yep i've never got any proof , i'm just dreaming about all the broke turbo cars that only work for 5 mins mines not broke yet,i did over 800 hard miles the week leading up to fordfair, the fault was with a loose ign wire nothing to do with the engine
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 zetec calm down , no need to swear !!!!!!!!
over_head_cam Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I feel sorry for sambo. I think he's lost this thread to the atmo/turbo argument
Fiesta Steve Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I feel sorry for sambo. I think he's lost this thread to the atmo/turbo argument Maybe, but he's about to ruin a perfectly good engine, so its good for him to hear both sides of the argument.
Arched Escy Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 My dream engine for my scort is an NA YB or a 2.5 Millington....you think NA cossies are expensive?Millingtons start at soethin like 20k!!!!!

WHY? i dunno.....but they sound the nuts and colin mcrae has one maurice moffett has one in his starlet and he beats all the GpN evos
mossy Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 loads of my mates run cossie turbos and have never blown them up ... just usual engine wear and tear eg. gaskets, and clutches mostly!
Fiesta Steve Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Gaskets aren't wear and tear, they normally blow for a reason.
steve dray Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 As a point of interest the YB was origanally designed as a normally aspirated engine years before the turbo version came along.................anyway back to the point, I run a n/a yb in my anglebox, it's only mild spec running 208bhp at the flywheel, it's 1/4 mile times are average, it is great fun to drive, good at low speed and high speed, it leaves turbo cars on the line, until the 1/8th then I'm in second place! I say if you want big power go turbo but you must have the drivetrain to go with it. No good having 300hp if you cant get it on the road. I dont think reliability is an issue with this engine providing it is maintained using quality products. After all that mad Escort cossie drag car from malta runs nearly 1000hp on a standard crank!
PIG Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 get the atmo engine running m8,then flog itthen go for a turbo yb.no one has said there the fastest up the strip or the fastest on a track.but you rant one with good power and you will piss your knickers my friend and for me that is what its about spinning the wheels in most gears.on the move from 50mph fook all and i mean will touch you.again imo.your love both i would think any way.i had grip issues at silverstone and trouble carching steve in the fiesta because i had no grip(it was fooking great).and as said the yb's keep blowing up,but on that day steve's atmo fiesta popped unfortunatly.good thread this again imo
Fiesta Steve Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 At last a sensible post, lol. for me that is what its about spinning the wheels in most gears. As p1g says spinning the wheels in every gear = fun, but not nescesarlliy the quickest way from A to B. on the move from 50mph fook all and i mean will touch you. The n/a car will be way in front but giving the chance to strecth its legs the turbo car will be coming up fast. i had grip issues at silverstone and trouble carching steve in the fiesta because i had no grip(it was fooking great) You sure did look to be having fun, but may not be the fastest way around the track. I can't even spin my wheels in second gear and that combination was what worked on that day on that track. Thanks sidewayspig for a sensible post giving good points of view
