Fiesta Steve Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Some turbo cars 'feel' very fast. I know someone with a Skyline and when he takes me out in it, i'm like "fook this thing shifts, theres no way my car could compete with this !" But on the strip, after several attemps it scraped a 13.9, I ran 13.8, yet it felt faster than mine what with the turbo kicking in and all that. It runs at around 300 bhp

I suppose with the sudden rush of power coming in a big hit it is gonna feel faster. Now, normally i would say that he didnt get a much quicker time than you on the strip is cos of wheelspin, but thinking about it you have a pokey FWD car!!!! I see what your saying mate, and for now i am deffo staying ATMO!!!! Unless someone can convince me otherwise!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I'll take you out in mine Sambo ( when it's done , should be in september ) but in the mean time get a ride in Tango or Matt Dowlers etc , you'll love the noise and they go like fooooook

RETRO_AL Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 ps turbo cars do work when sett up,heres 2 of my fav videos here a n/a vid
sambo Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 Cheers Al, seen those vids before. bloody awesome especially the crystal palace one! Those sierra's that ran alot of horsepower were awesome too, does go to show that turbo 4 pot fords can be effective too! I just got to find someone to treat me to a ride in thier turbo escort and compare it to how a N/A feels i guess.
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I just got to find someone to treat me to a ride in thier turbo escort and compare it to how a N/A feels i guess. Did i mention the noise baaaaaaarp , baaaaarp , baaaaaaaarp verses whoooooosh , bang !!!!!!!!!!
jimmyesh Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Just read through the whole of this thread while I was supposed to be working lol! I can identify with both sides here reagrding N/A and Turbo lumps, if you live your life 1/4 mile at a time on the strip and/or track days then a peaky stratospehric-revving N/A lump is great if you don't spend much time on our congested roads (and take your car to the strip or track on a trailer!! ) - I know from my own experience- my 219bhp Connaught Zetec 2.1 I had in one of my previous Fiestas was an animal But I hated being in traffic in it as it hated idling despite having a very sophisticated engine management and mapping. Also when "on cam" it was great but anything below 4k rpm was awful!! It revved to 8k rpm and peak power at 7.5k rpm, with peak torque of 180lb/ft at 5k rpm - That engine was a properly built £5k engine that lasted me ages an I sold it on still running sweet as a nut 3 years later! I think with Turbo engines (that aren't tuned to mental levels! ) you get the best of both worlds in that you get massive peak power, loads of TORQUE which is available in the low and mid range too! and as it's only breathing through a single throttle body and off bost at idle (unless you have anti-lag! ) it will idle happily all day in traffic and be driveable at slower speeds where a peaky screamer N/A engine will be coughing and spluttering all over the show!! No offence intended to anyone here - I was at the Classic Ford Show earlier in the year and was SERIOUSLY impressed with the speed of the N/A stuff on the strip - I ended up next to TANGO N/A COSSIE Escort with my Nu-skool Fiesta RS1800 with ST170 Engine and 'box (now sold and replaced with my 1975 MK1 Escort! ), needless to say he whooped my ass AND it's on youtube somewhere!
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Go on the Tango !!!!!!!! , baaaaaaaaarp , baaaaaaaaarp , baaaaaaaaarp
jimmyesh Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 lol yeah awesome car the Tango! Here is the clip - I'm up against him in my fiesta (now sold so hold back with the abuse !!) http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozWVyy-Uuu4 That was my slowest run of the day, my best was 15.0 @ 94mph with a much more aggresive launch, the swag from the boot removed etc. The car had a 180bhp ST170 engine and 6-speed box (was awesome on the motorway) Reckon I would have held my own if I still had the connaught lump though! If I stripped the interior out, lowered front tyre pressures etc, excuses, excuses... Still I have a RWD Escort now so hard, fast launches and respectable 1/4 here we come!
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 lol yeah awesome car the Tango! http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozWVyy-Uuu4 Baaaaaarp , baaaaaaaaarp , baaaaaaaaarp , get in there Tango baby !!!!!!! Don't forget folks Tango's running on 175/50/13 street rubber so would blast out 12.5's on hoosier slicks no sweat as it's wheelspinning alot . This is a fast car

Guest MK1gaz Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 It would be nice to see some more of the turbos race on street rubber for a few runs before they fit slicks . Then we would know what they go like on the road

Then we would know what they go like on the road I will be running mine on road tyres at the w/end before i fit my slicks. Just on a side note, whilst talking to Kev and Gary Warn a good few weeks ago, i remember them saying that Gary run an 11.5 on road tyres, I m sure Kev will confirm or deny this if he see s this post.
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 I've seen Jim's pucker moonstone blue cossie turbo mk1 cortina go on street tyres a few times , i think he's 12.8 secs but most of the others run slicks normally or gas or both .
