GJUK Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Dry-Sumped. What's that then? Its where minimum oil is kept in the engine, the sump is very shallow and oils stored outside of the engine area and pumped through the engine, and cooled outside of the block. Keeps the oil cool and stops oil surges if I recall the article I read!
cossieglen Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Yeah, that's absolutely right, generally the pressure is kept constant too, as it's pumped directly into the engine rather than being sucked from the sump. Basically, it's pumped into the top normally, and then scavenged from the bottom back into the catch tank, where it's easier to keep cool.
GT_Jim Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 ill give you a penny and a boild sweet for it
sambo Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 You sure its a pinto block?? What about the dizzy location? its on the wrong side??
Arched Escy Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 You sure its a pinto block?? What about the dizzy location? its on the wrong side?? only goin by what im told
Fiesta Steve Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Could be from a Cosworth Chevy Vega? Yes its a Cosworth Vega, not pinto blocked
cossieglen Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 It could still be a pinto block, if you notice the dizzie is a remote item powered from the cam pulley, the original position for the dizzie is being utilised by the dry sump pump, which is also where the standard pump is driven from in the pinto originally as it's all driven off the auxiliary pulley there.
aden Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 WTF?? does look like a pinto block i must admit, but the exhaust and carbs are on opposite sides to a pinto, looks hard as nails though would like to know what its out of??
cossieglen Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Yeah, they are the wrong sides effectively, but with twin cam engines you can actually time them to draw from left to right, or vice versa.
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Looks like a B.D.A to me with a dry-sump + some dodgey dizzy mods

over_head_cam Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 I think the words "CHEVY COSWORTH" written on the cam cover are a bit of a giveaway Developed in the early 80's by Cosworth for the Chevrolet Vega Saying that though, the logo on the Vega's usually has the bow-tie badge too. This one is pretty cool http://www.cosworthvega.com/images/camcover1000_750.jpg
