thelastbandit Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Isn't it a pity that what might have been the rodders and old skool ford owners of tomorrow have been bought up on a diet of lowered Saxos, Clios and Golfs! They are truly missing the point IMHO. What has bought this on? Well when I collected my Pop yesterday, I was driving along with a huge grin on my face (as we all do when getting a new toy) and I was stuck in a little traffic jam, and it was "school out" time, and as I sat there beaming from ear to ear, I heard someone shout "oi, look it's ChittyChitty BangBang" I was not amused, and ignored the comment (although it has given me a great idea for a rear window "legend") I then thought about the comment some more and came to the realisation that we, as in, the "Old Skool" (both Rods, Customs and of course Fords) are probably the last generation (with the exception of some of the younger drivers on this very forum) to truly appreciate cars like rodded Pops, Mk1 Cortinas, Escorts, Capris and Anglias etc and not just look at them as "old cars" like the school kids of today do. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think about this statement, whether you think it true or false. Discuss (...er if you want)
surfingturnip Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I can see where you're coming from but there are quite a few of us who arent into the chav mobile scene
Copey Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 yeah, ther are still some youngsters that are into OSFs!!
old skool freestyler Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 i know how you feel mate alot of people i know have the chaved up corsas and saxos, and when i brought the escort home all the could say is why the fook did you get that old piece of shit they just cant see the beauty in these cars all i say is mine is still here after nearly 40 years will your car last that long and they tend to shut up oh well done on the new car btw
surfingturnip Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 look at it this way, there may be fewer people into the older fords than say 10 years ago but that just means more cars/parts for the rest of us. Also congrats on the new car, it sounds awesome!
thelastbandit Posted September 12, 2007 Author Report Posted September 12, 2007 I can see where you're coming from but there are quite a few of us who arent into the chav mobile scene Glad to hear it young .. er.. Turnip..

RUSTYPUP Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 look at it this way, there may be fewer people into the older fords than say 10 years ago] I'm not so sure about that. My first car on the road was a MK2 Tina with a pinto in it and that was just over 10 years ago. I had a couple of mates the same age with old cars, but the vast majority had Fiestas and Metros. I reckon Old Ford have a larger following now than ever
mossy Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 i love the osf scene and have done before i could drive..! A load of my mates do too....just they cant be arsed with the ammount of money you have to spend and the worry of reliability.
Mr Sam Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 i grew out of silly cars a long time ago mates go on about ferrari 30 this and 32 that.....i cant tell the difference or even see the point when its just gonna get its arse wiped by a sorted escort and the new shopping trolly hot hatchches are no match for the likes of fiesta steves 'hot' hatch was at a classics meet tonight (funnily enough there was a capri with an osf sticker..........but hes not signed up yet lol) anyway this old boy was going on about how great it is to see someone my age with a nice little classic....then i tell them i also own an anglia and thier eyes light up still unfortunatly the vast majority of youth just laughs at old cars like mine some however do apreciate it
surfingturnip Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 still unfortunatly the vast majority of youth just laughs at old cars like mine untill you floor it past them and leave them in the dust you meen
texr2000 Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I got mixed comments when I got my Mk1 at 16 (some 4 years ago now)... some people couldn’t understand why I wanted a car so old, and assumed as it was old it was cheap! Others thought it was cool having an old Ford and also new it was RWD, which they could only dream of with 1st car insurance prices (not many cheap to insure RWD’s). Also my insurance was half what they were paying, and the old 1300GT engine was more than a match for there modern day 1.1’s and 1.3’s! But there is plenty of young people that are like wow it’s a old Escort, but they seem to all want RWD jap stuff not old Ford RWD stuff… Only problem I found with my Mk1 was it was working out expensive to run and wasn’t really that useable (motorways and couldnt just leave it parked up in places), and I knew that I would end up with body work issues later on using it in all weathers. So I ended up getting myself a Mk2 golf GTi for everyday use and also I wanted to put a 1600 in the mk1 so needed another car anyway. I then picked me self up a 1.9 205GTi and sold the golf, but even though they’re 80’s hot hatches I still think they are ‘cool’ and sort of ‘retro’ and not a saxo clio etc but I have sort of fallen into the boy racer world of cars now after getting a Focus RS but then again it is a pure RS decedent of the original Escort RS’s… I blame the parents and there upbringing for them not wanting something cool and old skool…should have been beaten into them from a young age, like me lol!
V8ian Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I wonder where my son stands , He owns a S2 Turbo,[for Sale] and came home the other night with a chaved up Pug 106 1.6 16v, whick is going to be De Chaved at the first oppotunity, and in the garage he has a Mk1 escort, bit of an ongoingggggggggggg project, and is seriously pissing me off as its in the way big time, but he LOVES it, every time I have the cortina out, he will want me to take his mates out in the car, managed to get one to chuck up last year
geoffersmasher Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i was brought up in the chaviest area ever but i did alright, there are a few kids round my way one with a capper one with a mk1 escort its not as bad as you think
GT_Jim Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 never liked saxos, i had my 1st classic at 16 - my herald project and when i was 19 i bought the cortina and quite a few of my friends are doing similar
baz105e Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I think it's mainly to do with magazines like LACKS POWER, and PANTS CAR, they portray to all these youngsters that if you put a body kit on and some huge wheels you'll be cool when infact theyre just making thier cars slower and handle like sacks of shit. dunno if ive ever seen a 'modified' car with a truly tuned engine. thats the differenge between a hot snatch and an osf, we actually make faster cars not heavier shinyer ones
Slik 50 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 IMHO I coulnt give a crap what they drive. Without chav's and corsas ect who would we laugh at? I would rather them stick big spoilers on to corsas than stick them on OSF'S As long as they stay away from this scene, Im happy.
jimmyesh Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I was driving through Sittingbourne high-street in my MK1 Escort last week on the way to see my son when some fat, disgusting "Vicky-Pollard"-type bird said "uurgh look at that horrible old car!!" She is obviously from the dregs of society and I'd hazard a guess that she has her existence paid for by our taxes while she watches Jeremy Kyle every day! So I don't really value her opinion! On the flip side, I was driving it back to Berkshire on the M25 and surprise, surprise some mong had crashed so we all sat in traffic for hours A lorry driver wound down his window and was praising the car up, we had a good long chat. Also I'm always getting the thumbs-up from other road users young and old so they're not all bad!

Unfortunatly Sittingbourne is on the edge of the Isle of Sheppey *shudder*, which is THE chav city for the SE, check out www.sheppeyscum.com
GT_Jim Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 im from mansfield - chavs migrated to here about 7 years ago and stayed which is a pity but the cortina always got the thumbs up and ive had people film her on their phones as they drove past
FlashCadillac Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i see it like this.... people only realise that there plasic isnt so fantastic when they get out of school and college... ... i mean you dont see many 30/40 year old guys driving around in them... when they realise there mistake you might start to get more people interested in the older cars with more charicter and even if im wrong it means when all you guys are too old to build cars any more there will be nobody left to buy them so they "we" the young bloods of OSF will have to buy them off you for small ammounts of money i do have to say though when your a kid, comments from you dad like... "i used to have one of those" or "i learnt to drive in one of them" hardly inspire people to go out and buy there dads old car i got into it as my dad has a garage full of muscle cars and OSFs... i wanted a muscle car but the nobs that are the insurace companies wont let me... so OSF will do for now
baz105e Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 when i used to get dropped off at school by my dad in his anglia my mates used to take the piss, ofcourse i used to tell them to f uck off and point oput that they clearly didn't know what they were looking at (car was in near perfect condition) i still see most of the lads now and they seem to have changed thier minds slightly saying things like THATS THE BOLLOKS and RATHER HAVE THAT THAN A SAXO
bortaf Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 It's true in the same way when we left school we thought an austin 7 was chitty chitty bang bang I'm ok on fords back to the Mk2 corty cos it was a current car when i was younge, anything before that is a mystery to me i just cant keep trck of whats a 105E, 107E, 100E We where all chavs to the earlyer generation (only the name was different) i bet they all looked to the sky in exsasperation when out generation started sticking X packs (plastic fantastic anyone) and boot spoiler (ok a rubber RS spoiler aint not huge alloy btcc job but i bet it looked that way to our dads) on our Mk2 escorts and capris, ripspeed body kits and jacked up rear axles Oh how i laugh when people says chavs have no taist, of course thay are right but i was one
Stu_B Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I'm 25, owned a capri & now have a 2dr mk3 'tina, my mate Rich has a 2dr 1300gt & my mate paul has just bought an anglia estate 1550 pre crossflow! I was never really into car's untill I learnt to drive! I have lot's of younger mates who love my car so I'd say the scene is safe
Rick Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 im not sure to be honest on this one. i had a little kid stand at the end of the drive with his mate, must have been between 10-13yr old and he said wow look a mk1 escort and then asked if i was gonna race it. i was quite impressed he even knew what it was. and even more impressed when his older brothers didnt try and steal it the same night lol... loada pikeys round here i tell ya
