BIG G Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 There is a screw driver slot in the end where the nut came from.. undo that and the shock will pull out.use a bit of WD40 that will help
fezza Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 Cheers mate any other tips to undo it,ive used wd40 and bent my screwdriver
w p e Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 what about the top locking ring.that holds the insert in
fezza Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 Is that the bit that sits around the neck of the strut where the insert slides in and out of the caseing??
alladdin Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 theres no top ring on billys, you need to unscrew the whole insert . as said above, now you have removed the lock nut you need to unscrew the insert from the bottomplate.try heating strut base.
Jay_harrier Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Some struts at the top of the leg will have the ring, undo that and the insert should come out. My struts didn't have rings, cut the spring platforms off with a hacksaw above the weld: I tend to cut them until the filings change colour Once you've cut all the way round get a block of wood & a hammer to beat the platform off: Grind off the remaining part of the platform clean up the tube in the areas you going to weld to: Put the threaded tube over the leg and position it where you want it (generally people slide them 50mm down from the top edge) Before welding make sure you put the alloy lock rings onto the threaded tube - they won't go on afterwards unless you grind the welds down Also cover the threaded tubes etc with tape, you will get splatter off the welder and it will ruin the threads if you don't Finally tidy up the welds, maybe smear some filler around the edges: And paint:
flyingbanana Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 that should be put into ' how to guides'

fezza Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 that should be put into ' how to guides' Thats exactly what i thought
alladdin Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 lots of info here http://forums.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=60192
Jay_harrier Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 I did start to write a guide as its a very common question, but I found a similar one on the other boards - I've a ton more pics of other bits such as stripping off hubs, steering arms, where to mask off, how to rebuild etc - I might finish it now and ask one of the mods to add it to the sticky on the other board.
meXEco Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 If you cant undo the insert with a screwdriver-like me-then use 2 nuts on the thread locked to unscrew it.

You should do that mate ,good idea and very helpfull If you cant undo the insert with a screwdriver-like me-then use 2 nuts on the thread locked to unscrew it. Very good tip i just cant get the bugger off with a screw driver i'll give that a go mate, cheers
100ejohn Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 This is an excellent post, but inside the shock case is what looks like packing for the insert (to stop the it rattling around) will this not go up in flames or does this not matter or can it pull out? Thanks john
