bomber1 Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 have u got a new style log book for it?
Smudger105e Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 How long has it been off the road? If it has not been taxed or SORNed since the SORN regulations were introduced, it does not need to be declared SORN. The Anglia I have just retaxed yesterday was last taxed until Sept 1999, and it was not declared SORN.
Rick Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 have u got a new style log book for it? yep
Smudger105e Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 This is off the DVLA website Do I have to declare SORN? Yes. All vehicles that have been licensed on or after the 31st January 1998 need a SORN declaration if the vehicle is unlicensed. For more information about SORN please go the DVLA website http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/vehlicnc.htm

Smudger105e Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Mine was a motor bike I have up the side of the house. I argued that I had taxed two cars on line, and why would I not have declared it SORN at the same time, but they said, tough titty, cough up your £40 Sonny Jim Anyone want a P reg Z400 for £75, or £125 with a brand new exhaust and downpipes?
bigglesmk2 Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 My mk2 was in my name but then i moved house and didnt sorn it for three years or get my new address on log book. When it came to using the car again i put it into my girlfriends name then back into mine and claimed the previous owner was somebody else with same name at a different address.Hey presto i didnt pay the fine and they never followed it up.
escamino Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 as in the title really. never ha da tax reminder or sorn document to send in. but as the car gets closer its about time i sent off for it for my vehicle cus i bet its not even on their computers. you dont reckon theyl say somet daft like i owe them 20 years tax as it wasnt registered sorn its tax free so i may aswell get all my docs ready for the big day Think you have to apply for the tax class to be changed to historic before you get your free tax.

If it's a straight forward case and your car was registered pre Jan 73 then it's a rubber stamp exercise. However if it was built before 1st Jan 73 and registered after that date, then you need to take proof of build date along with you. Accepted proof of build dates are generally either a letter from the manufacturer, or from a recognised car club.
Rick Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 just checked its PLG 1972 do i still need to prove anything as its obviously before 73 whats a vehicle registration office?
jayson2.3pinto Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 when you go to the vro office you need mot insurance then if they decide it is ok to change to to historic they have to issue a tax disc there then they send docs of to dvla at swansea and tell them that it is tax exempt then they will change from plg to historic which will be written on your log book then in the future you can get your tax for freeeeeeee
32evo Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 I am going through the same thing at the moment, the last time my 69 Capri was taxed was 1989, well before the free tax for pre 73 cars came out. You have to change the taxation class from PLG to Historic, take your logbook, mot, insurance and filled out V10 and V62 forms to your local DVLA office, they will then issue you with a tax disc and ammend your logbook to historic
32evo Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 v10 v62? Go to the post office and ask for forms V10 and V62, or go on the dvla website and download them. These have to be filled in and handed in with your documents when you go to your local dvla office. You will not get your car taxed without them, specially if you have an old style log book.
Rick Posted October 12, 2007 Author Report Posted October 12, 2007 cheers (y) not sure where theres a dvla office thoug:-D
32evo Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 cheers (y) not sure where theres a dvla office thoug:-D Look up your phone book or go on the dvla website and enter your post code and it will give you your nearest office. Another way you can do it is to send your docs and filled out v10/v62 forms to Swansea. If you want your car taxed quick, go to your local office.
