Rick Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2003/e03203.htm it seems this would explain being diagnosed with asthma a few months back and i tell you what now the cold weather has arrived its made itself known to me. i know theres a lot of heresay on the risks involved, i have contributed to some of it. im pretty convinced this is the main cause as i dont smoke and am not really exposed to anything else to induce such symptoms. its got me quite worried at the mo so im gonna get some allergy tests and stuff done to make sure. mask up. its not just heresay
antz Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 i never wear a mask but then im just do bits and bats in the garage...should mask though
Rick Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 i do now. had a pretty rough last night too it was quite cold
Delotus Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Hope every thing ok mate. Dealing with chemicals is a risky buisness for sure. I am a panel beater by trade and i am also convinced the years of digesting car body filler dust and grinding rust away has give me the dodgy stomack i have now been plagued with for ten years. Take care,Tim
Rick Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 nothing is certain yet of course but id say its quite likely iv neva had asthma symtoms before. but only been spryaying for a year on and off, wheras i know ppl that have done it all their life and working in filler dust with little care for themselves and theyre fine. i guess it affects people differently though which is where the debates fit in i suppose/
old skool freestyler Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 i have bad asthma it does suck dude know how you feel it does get easer to deal with thow your body seems to get used to it i have had it since i was about 9 and now if i get wessie i just have my inhaler and ty to forget about it hope all is ok for you mate
mk2_escort_chick Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 One of the girls at work (well she's quit now) claimed to have bad asthma. She put on some brilliant performances- twice we had to call for an ambulance. Yes i did say claimed to have bad asthma... one day she was crouched down the end of one of the aisles in our stockroom, dave asked if she was ok and she replied "yeah, just faking an asthma attack to get out of dusting" Since then no-one has believed her. Kinda boy that cried wolf situation. Asthma isn't nice though- i know a few people that suffer from it
kirk10 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 always use iso free laquer as its safer and the new water based paint is alot safer aswell
bortaf Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Do you get hayfever or exma? they are all linked, had hayfever for years but the astma got a lot worse when i used to deliver in the west end (all those car fumes), i do shmoke but TBH weed makes it better Not that i'm in any way sugesting you start puffing
Mr Sam Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 i wore a mask when i did my whole car and it was outside still got me light headed spraying the interior with rattlecans got me light headed too never had breathing difficulties though

Lukey Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I heard water based paints are good enough to drink, is this true ? Nah mate, we use a new waterbase system at work, makes you gag more than solvent!
spooner Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 About four years ago i was painting a box trailer for a race team, just about to start putting the etch primer on and went and stood on my mask oh well it's got to be done so carried on.................. Five hours later i was lying in the garden gasping for air till the ambulance took me away. Took two weeks to get back to work, I was crapping myself. Now i dont mess about with paint always got a mask on when using two pack
Jay_harrier Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Its not just breathing, a guy I used to know sprayed for the leccy board, his stomach became sensitised because of the thinners/fumes etc - affected badly what he could eat. Don't take any chances whether its rattle cans or propper kit - you may feel ok at the time but it will get you in the end.
Fiesta Steve Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I heard water based paints are good enough to drink, is this true ? Nah mate, we use a new waterbase system at work, makes you gag more than solvent! I was joking m8 Can't beat a lung full of solvents first thing in the morning to clear the air ways. Anyone that walks into my mixing room cannot breath, I don't even notice it
Lukey Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Can't beat a lung full of solvents first thing in the morning to clear the air ways. What about a splash of thinners in the eye, it sting like fook but you just can't help laughing at the guy who does it
xpackken Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 i use waterbase to apparently its just as bad as it has latex in in and this sticks to the lungs . its a dangerous trade just leave it alone . ill be honest i put a fly mask o n when i remember but when doing a respray in an oven i borrow a mates airfed. _________________ europe economy
