surfingturnip Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 why do people like rat look....i thought u were supposed to save them...not let them rust.......rat look is for beetles...not ford ...imho the idea of rat look is to have an aged ' lived in ' look. Many rat look cars are extremely solid underneath and just give teh imression of being knakered
Cookie Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Never been a fan of this 'rat look' just makes an old bucket and old bucket with a name IMHO sorry all you rat fans

Popuptoaster Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Rat look didnt start with beetles, it was an insult from the lads who ran shiny expensive hotrods built from all new parts when abusing the guys who ran rods built from scrapyard parts with cheaper or non existant paint. A "ratrod" didn't always come in matt black OR look tatty, it just wasn't all new. The bare metal bonnet craze has more to do with "hoodride" than "rat", hoodride started out in a similar way, the cars were junkers kept running but left looking tatty as the areas they were parked in were not safe for shiny bling cars where as those with the patina of old age and hard use were safe. The VW boys stole the idea, started building they're cars in the same style, set up a website and started selling hoodride parts and stickers which pretty much defeated the object. If your car is built from second hand parts and is low budget, its "rat" whatever it looks like, and if its old and battle scarred and you could park it anywhere and know it would be there when you get back its hoodride. Building a deliberate rat, or hoodride car is worthy of much mocking and piss taking.
