Ive been hiding from the rain in thet shed for over thirty years, the pod has never been the same since they put in real toilets in the late seventies. I enjoyed the pause b4 the splash when relieving oneself of a pod burger!!

this is crap!!!

i remember my dad sitting me in there for the first time when i was about 5 years old and me hiding behind the metal fence and peeping through the gaps at the jet car giving the barn a good kicking cos i never had the bolarks to stand up and take the full brunt , my dad told me that if i wanted to see it i had to see it from the barn cos it was the best place , i will never forget sitting in that poxy first aid tent getting my eyes cleaned with optrex afterwards (yeh cheers dad) .....................

ive had many a day walking away from there covered in dust and crap with my eyes stinging from the methonal and alcahol top fuel funny cars this sucks big time :evil:

Copied this over from Retro Rides. Hope that´s allowed?

Here´s the facts from someone who knows...

"Hi Guys, Rick from Santa Pod here. Long time lurker, first time poster!

Just wanted to drop in on this conversation to say that yes, the barn was removed due to health and safety officers insistance. Noone is happy about the loss of spectator space, and I have to acknowledge that it was the best place to watch drag bikes in action.

Anyone who has ever stood in the barn during a burnout will have heard the stones pinging off the Toyo banners, and part of the H&S argument is that people can get hit in the face by debris, which is an undeniable fact. We could do without someone suing us for losing an eye, and believe me that drag racing and enthusiast events would suffer if we ever had to pay out on such a claim!

So there it is laid bare: it sucks that we have to do it, but we do HAVE to do it. Sorry :(

But I can assure you it has nothing to do with making stacks of money from VIP boxes!"

Shame but i can understand,

How about a few covered stands at the start?? so that we can hide from the weather!

I may not have been to the pod as much as some of the people on here. But standing in the barn watching fire force or some other mental drag cars launching of down the strip, Holding my sons had while he had a look of utter bewilderment on his face as he strugled to understand how much noise, Smoke and smell they make. That to me is a memory that I will always hold close to my hart!

R.I.P the barn

my memory of the barn is from my second trip to pod, classic ford 2005 watching Ron Harris, id just moved down from scotland and the drag stip up there was just chavvy shopping trolleys so to see an escort twisting all over the place off the line was just insane and something ill never forget

a very blurry video from the day

Could that be two things we'll all miss from the Pod? Has Ron Harris really retired. Legend! :ykt:

Is that Andy next to Ron's car in the burn out. He looks enormous. Imagine what an escort of similar power with a smaller chap in it could do!

They are going to keep the outer skin now,dig up the concrete and recover the shell.

Roller doors on the front,The fire engine and track cleaners are going to live inside.
