I don't like looking for faults in someone elses pride and joy, or anyone who practices such things  .

I know Mike, but it annoys me when people assume that negative comments about peoples pride and joy will have no effect. If I had a Malta styled car I would take offense to comments like that.

"look at my new ride. It took me ages and I spent all my spare money on it and I'm really proud"

"It's hideous"

"Thanks"

See what I'm trying to say? There is a wide chasm between 'I don't like' and 'It's crap'

Block the thread then! I was simply answering Antz' question.

Oh and it aint a mex its an 1100 base

Not really true is it.

Antz asked what you don't like about the 'scene', not who's cars you think are hideous.

Mex or not you know what I meant. This forum is NOT for slating other members rides. Period

Bored Chris. And wrong ;)

Whether the question in the OP was answered in the right context or not is immaterial. I see this as a negative comment that is unwanted, and followed up by 'so there' comments, which are also unwelcome.

Opinion is personal. And sometimes best not published.

After all, must every question be answered? And in such an insulting way?

I don't like/care for/want the 'XYZ' type cars IS different to 'they're hideous'

Or am I wasting a reasoned argument?

Ok i can see both sides to this now, maybe i should of said 'not so keen on' and apologies if it offended anyone.

However i didnt slate anyones car in particular and is it different to someone saying they dont like the sarf london look because the skinny tyres look stupid???? because i read this on the forum very recently.

I don't like people who have a go because you've done something different. Like put a Zetec in a 'rare van'.

And I don't like people who moan

Like Vista, I love the social scene.

I like exposing myself in public places

i have 2 agree with most comments but the only thing i dont get more than anything is why people on these sites are so upset by other peoples choices and opinions as anything said is surly not said to offend any1 it may be that harsh words are said by accident but if any1 said they hated mexico's i would have the opinion well its my car if u dont like it thats ur problem not mine (each to there own!!!)

so i have 2 agree with Cmpod83

in my opinion if we cant give a personal opinion what is the point in us being here :? if he was digging at 1 specific car i could see the argument all he has used is 1 harsh word which could have been chosen a little more wisley and now he has been grilled for it!

mmmm....interesting thread you started here Antz

Personally , my major " dislike " if you want to call it that is the * clicky * attitude that comes with certain cars in the OSF scene . We all love OSF"s , so why does it happen ?

The majority of OSF"s on here are Escorts , next i would say Capris /Anglias , then probably Cortinas .....i might be wrong , and i am sure someone will correct me , but surely the point we are all on here is because we all have an affection for old Fords ...

I"m kind of in agreement with Chris and Phil .... so i"m not sure if i have written this right , but , as for the comment about Maltese drag cars , there different , they"ve been done to there taste , and by all accounts fookin quick ...i would have read the original comment as being worded incorrectly to be honest....but then its an opinion ...yes ?

Oh , and i find the prices of some parts fookin ridiculous ! But then if i didn"t want to pay them , i"d buy a Austin Allegro :lol::lol::lol:

Theres a few reason why the scene isnt perfect, bearing in mind no scene is perfect.

Your only allowed 6 or 7 different kinds of wheels, Steels, Minilites, RS 4 spokes (including 7" and laser), Alleycats, Slotmags, revolutions (4+5 spoke) and wellers. In my opinion most other wheels on my osf's look cack, but your not even allowed to try anymore, and some of the mk3 cortinas, gannies and mk3 capris actually look half decent on big wheels.

Youve never got the right engine in your car. For example, whilst pondering over which engine to drop in my mk1 cortina, no-one has said that ive had a good idea yet. First i was tuning the crossflow, but most comments where why not fit a Twin cam or Pinto. I had to explain twin cams are expensive and i hate pintos. So i decided on XE so i got why not fit a Zetec or tune the Crossflow, and the usual 'why not fit a pinto' comments. If i kept the engine standard, itd be why dont you tune it, put a set of 40's on (a lot of simple minded people think the best ever and most powerfull modification is 40's) or why not fit a pinto? Most people on here are very open minded, but the people outside of this forum arent.

The prices are just ridculous. Lotus Cortinas are very rare now, but theyre not worth £20,000, neither are mk1 Rs2000's worth £15,000. Why people are willing to pay this i dont know, but its getting stupid now. The whole scene can be elitist above other people, other cars and other scenes too. That is also pushing the prices way up.

On the other hand, and apart from the few people who try their best to absent mindedly ruin everything for everyone else there is some very good reasons to love ths cene. For a start, look at the others. The Jap scene is even more elitist and just as expensive, and tuning parts cost more then the cars. The Drifting scene is full of Apple Pies unfortunately. The kiddies hot hatch scene is just shite. The classic car scene is full of smelly old people with a bit of money thinking their standard cars are 'proper'. There is no classic vauxhall scene because theyve all rotted away, and anything else is full of idiots or riduculously expensive cars, which none are actually worth the value the snobby owners are asking for. In short, OSF is pretty much the best scene about, and thatsbefore we even get into the sense of community and helpfull people involved in a still expanding group of people who are here just to enjoy our cars and stop slating others off.

tbh i think that is a defining statement of what OSF is!!!

personally i hate:

'if its not a real RS then its not worth a second glance'

:ykt: Yes this is the biggest problem within the oldskoolford scene . Just out perform them instead because then they have to look at you because your in front !!!!!!!

Actually I think that what Antz is referring to happens far more from outsiders looking in than it does from owners of RS cars. Though I'm sure there are one or two such owners in existence I personally have never met another RS owner that thinks he or his car is in any way better than owners of non RS cars. Plus I don't think I've ever noticed any member of OSF suggesting that his car is in someway better than another members car, I have however repeatedly seen people feeling the need to defend their choices against certain keyboard warriors though.

I dislike clubs that don't regard cars highly if they are not to concours standard and members within these clubs that are only really interested in their own pride and joys.

I actually prefer to visit local rallies/fairs/pegeants where I can get a good look at all makes and models, not just Fords.

most of it's already been said, but....

got to say, much as there's the occasional gripe going on this has to be one of the most helpful and friendly forums on the net if not THE (i've not been on them all!) most.

gutted that mk1 fezzas are getting more popular though - i like to be different (and cheap!)
