im realy shocked at some of the price's of capri's in genral, ive seen laser's at a easy £1200 and round a grand mark, and 2.8i's at redioule's money,i dont get it,from my personal point of view i dont get it,you see some right dog rough car's makeing stupied money, like 2.8i selling for offer's around £750 with no mot and needing a lot of work.

the reasion im on about this is very simple cant see the sense in the price's at the mo,me my self would'nt give no more than £1200 on any capri unless it's a tickford or a v8 or brookland's or something special, but you see a lot of run of the mill car's makeing a lot more why.

look at my car for instance worth every penny as not that many v8's like mine, will muler nearly every capri it come's up against on sheer power and play, look's as well, and i cant even give it away,to build a capri like mine you are looking in the region of £2500+ and it is only the price of a run of the mill capri, that's what i dont get as cant sell it on

alot of people like cars to be original and right, its like a genuine escort mex is worth more than an escort base model with a big engine

Yeah been watching Capri prices myself. A friend of mine has been after a 1.6 or 2.0 laser. A couple of years ago you could have picked one one up - low mileage original for less than a grand. A mint one 30k from new near me went for £800 a couple of years ago !!! (he advised it at £1200 but no takers !!!!)

Now I've seen basic low mileage lasers at £2000 > £3000 !! My mate says rightly that he feels like he's missed the boat so to speak. He only wants to pay a grand so he's looking for somat else now..

As for 2.8's - they have always fetched a premuim (forget brooklands and Tickfords - differant league) Its always the same as each decade passes. It's just that people who hankered after em in the eighties couldn't afford em and now there older they can. I suspect they hanker after the original (like I did when I bought mine). I bought mine 6 years ago - mint original low miles for £3000, then that was dear but the same car now - no idea what it's worth.

As for the V8's I think it's just the modifications that put people off. Plus I think it's wrong time of year / petrol prices etc. I'm sure it will level out, can you afford to wait till next year and better weather ?

i think that most capri's are over priced,i called on a 2.8i the other day no mot and needing a lot of work the guy asked me £1000 for it and it was a shed,

the price of petrol my v8 is probley better on juice than a v6,and the v8 capri is the car ford should have built

that's for my v8 im so bored with it have been and done most capri thing's,ive had at least 100 over the years and owned most model's in all 3 mark's,my car has'nt moved since i got back from ford fair just sit's on the drive,it's still taxed and tested and i have no intresst in takeing it out for a spin

There are cheap ones out there if u look hard enough. I bought my latest cappa for £350 from Ebay mk2 with quite a solid shell. I seems that cappa prices have started getting more as they become more and more rare.

Supply and demand i'm affraid , not many Capris for sale and lots of people chasing them so the price goes up . A bit like houses , £300,000 for a square box with windows that only cost a £100,000 10 years ago  . You'll have trouble selling a V8 capri because most prospective buyers won't get insurance on it (or think they won't) plus they may think is not built properly or something and this can scare people off  . I'd personally rather have a V8 than a V6 but then i love a modded old motor more than a shite standard one everytime :ykt:

Capri prices are going up steadily and have been for a while. Fast escorts are now big money so people are moving into capri's and pushing the prices up for the ones that are left. I agree that a lot of them are overpriced though, people are wanting top money for rotters because they see the demand is there.

if people want something bad enough theyl pay up.

its only a matter of time before all the other old fords go bonkers moneywise like the escorts

you guys dunno how lucky and spoilt for choice you are

try buying a road worthy classic of any type here in northern ireland they want stupid money we are only a few miles away

and most are english cars brought over here

but thats the thing with classics you sell it today they are worth more tomorrow

also i blame the big drifting fad for rwd cars holding there price in general a few years ago people where givin away serrias now they 2 are getting stupid money here

wanna make some money bring clean classics to northern ireland :?

This is the same old chestnut isnt it! Any car is only worth what someone else will pay for it, if the car you own is not wanted by any one else then its worthless isnt it? I have just payed £1700 for a 77 mk2 3000ghia and have agreed value insurance for £2700. Some years back though I let a 84 2.8i with a swaymar 3.2 engine go for £250 cos I was sick of tripping over it! We have all had cars when they were cheap and wish we had them now, god knows, in 1975 I paid £15 for a three year old 1300 mk1 escort van! Price up that sucker now!

im not just on about my capri,im on about priceing in genral on them it's gone mad on capri's more so standed one's,people seem to be paying over the odd's,i no some one who has just brought a b-reg laser for £1500 with 120thpos on the clock but it is clean'ish,my point is that sort of money put's you in something far better,i dont think ebay help's either as it build's a false price on osf's,has you dont no if people are bidding on their own car's.

a 3.0l s or ghir i can understand that sort of money may-be a 2.8i or special,but a laser they are load's about.

or if it is a mint car, little while back i sold a laser for £800 in gray primer but it had full service from new,the price's have gone wild ive seen laser's at the £3000 mark and you probley have to.

im not saying their is any-thing wroung with the lower capri's we all have owened them and will still own them, but even trying to buy one with no mot now teand's to be nearly as dear as one with a mot.

well id say their is not a lot in it

i cant have a 2.8i dont last me 5 mintur's as they say no luck with them.

brought a mint one 2yrs back before the v8,took it fot mot ant it caught fire on the way home engine fire,so i put a full race in it that lasted me about two week's,and ended up selling it for spare's  ,it's got to be a pinto, essex or a v8 for me

I dont think its just capris lads, Its OSF's right across the board !

Well if your giving it away i know a nice home it could go to

I was lucky i got given my cappa and i've done all the work on it and put the 2.9efi in it but now its getting hard just to get it looking good on a budget, i've seen good sorted bare shells primed n ready to go on e-bay unsold at £120 would of had it just not got the room.

So i guess people are just looking for the old school classics they use to drive without the hassle of learning all about a list of mods etc that they don't understand, or are willing to pay the premium for an unmolested car to start fresh on.

Just wish i had the time money n space to just pick up a bargin car that need work

Its all down to supply and demand. The Capri's are now jumping up in prices as did the Escorts a few years ago.

There are good cheap'uns around, but most people probably think, now that its a 'classic' i'll add another £500 on....................

Spot on, as with anything the more people there are that want them then the more people will ask for them when they put them up for sale. Actually I think that part of the rise in prices for OSF's as compared to other good classic cars has been caused by the popularity of forums like this and Turbosport. When people see a good scene building they want to be part of it.
