Kelvfoozinda Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Just been up a yard where my dad used to work....had a look around out the back and i counted. 3 Granny 2.8 ghia X's Probably 5 more grannys 1 MK2 Capri 2 MK3 Capri's All piled up with cars on top etc. Some of them looked really clean apart from obvious dents in the roof.
RFChris Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Better to go out in a blaze of glory rather that rust away!
lee_capri Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 yeh no what your saying but think about this if they did'nt most osf's would be worth less or they would not be as many spare's about, most banger boy's i no will sell me stuff if they have it or i some-time's get the whole car, look at ann's dorchester i brought that off a banger boy
james p Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Better to go out in a blaze of glory rather that rust away! id rather it was raced than sat there rottin osf or not
LEONMEX Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 My escort has parts from 3 capris & 1 mk2 escort that i raced on it,they where all to rotten to save for the road & all the good parts got past on to road going cars. So we ain't all bad
MK5 Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 i'm well known for my anti banger racing views BUT thanks to one of those guys my Tina will live on...
jimihendrix Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 It would'nt be so bad if they'd use cars that were too far gone but the truth is the regularly dont, my car was in danger of ending up on the banger track before i got it (84 Granny 2.8 Ghia), it had a rough back arch (now replaced) and the usual rust starting on the front wings and corners of the rear screen (dealing with these bits now), i'd still consider it a tidy worthwhile example yet there was a known racer prepared to give the guy the £700 he was asking only to smash it up.

over_head_cam Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 I've seen banger racers trying to sell cars that they thought might be of some interest, but noone comes up with the cash People moan all the time about it but never seem to be the ones to do anything about it. As above, better out with a bang, than rust into the ground
Slik 50 Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Plus I dont think there is a better sight then a capri on a killing spree
Kelvfoozinda Posted November 18, 2007 Author Report Posted November 18, 2007 This is true about most of them being too far gone, but they look like they could have been saved with minimal effort, bar the mk2 capri! I also fear that if i take pictures, i'll be chased out of the yard with a breaker bar as they'll think i'm the police! I'm sure if i asked they'd sell me a few bits though.

As above, better out with a bang, than rust into the ground as youve said mate we couldnt sell our granada with tax and mot so it was worth more as a banger in bits its saved gails cortina and alot more trim will have been sold before it reaches the track . every one can complain about banger racers buyt if no one else wants to pay for the car it goes to the man with the moneys
surfingturnip Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Plus I dont think there is a better sight then a capri on a killing spree fooking hell and they say old cars dont stand up well in crashes!
martymk1 Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 they are a good souce of spares, as people have said
sab6024 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Most of our cars go to the banger boys and most of the parts we get are from the banger boys. We never give away anything worth saving though and it's nice to watch their last days on the track sometimes My brother gave a Capri to a mate who used it in three meets and was the size of a Metro when he decided to bin it. I still think it could have done more
