dodgydoughnut Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 think its about time i had a bit more power in the mk1.currently running standard 2.0 zetec on 45s,but just fitting new cams and gearbox(gearbox shat itself at retroford track day)dont know what way to go really, looking at spending approx £3k maybe, ive got the zetec conversion which i could sell for maybe £1k so might have about £4k. dont mind getting my hands dirty(welding cutting etc)not too worried about cutting the shell (its my car so tuff) so thinking maybe well tunned zetec duatec s2000 cossie skyline 2.5 m3 lump etc any ideas looking for as much power as i can really ???????????????????????????????????????

James HPE Motorsport Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 if your motor is all set up for a zetec then I would save your pennies on having to buy other bits to make a different engine fit and use this extra dosh to go mad on a zetec!!! There are not many 200+ bhp zetec around to my knowledge!!!

dodgydoughnut Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Awaits Gaz`s Reply waiting as well yes i do think cossie is the way to go as its tried and tested.it really has to be a turbo as well. any other ideas?
Nick Mexi-cos Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 How about Zetec Turbo ( oh gaz will be turning now ) there a few bits around to turbo these , Steve Scott from A1 Rallysport was going to build on for me a while ago for one of me mk1 just something diffrent
Guest MK1gaz Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Nothing wrong with zetecs if you've got enough money to spend on them . If using a turbo zetec then i would get a focus RS engine as it comes with all the proper bits inside . It's much easier to just to fit a cossie in an escort though , that's why there's lots of them
pauln Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 How about Zetec Turbo ( oh gaz will be turning now ) there a few bits around to turbo these , Steve Scott from A1 Rallysport was going to build on for me a while ago for one of me mk1 just something diffrent Got to agree with that. Decompress and blow it.A lot of the cost of a Zetec is in the rwd conversion. If you have 3 grand to blow (pun intended) you could be heading towards 300bhp. Any engine of that power will want money spending on the bottom end though.
dodgydoughnut Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 ok agree gaz, but its not always about being easy.been thinking about building a zetec turbo, but i just like the idea of putting a standardish fast engine in rather than try to re-enginerer a standard low power one?(if you get what i mean) like my dad used to say, dont try and make a slow car faster, buy a fast one....just trying to mix the two together. so no suggestions on skyline or s2000?
Twinkle Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 must admit im toying with the zetec turbo idea myself, have already got the st focus lump and all the rwd conversion stuff and the NOS set up for my new mk1

Hang on there is'nt the YB a re-engineered pinto. The zetec bottom end is a popular choice with the RS Turbo crowd (though why you would put a cvh head on in place of a superb 16valve one is quite beyond me) so obviously does'nt mind a bit of boost.
dodgydoughnut Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 anyone on here with a good power silvertop ie 210+bhp .dont seem many around
Mr Sam Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 must admit im toying with the zetec turbo idea myself, have already got the st focus lump and all the rwd conversion stuff and the NOS set up for my new mk1 but thats a volvo engine so you'll need a volvo RWD box and bell housing
sambo Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 You mentioned a BMW lump is a possibiltiy?............ I think that'll be a wicked idea? Just my opinion, as all beemers i have been in have shite hot engines? But saying that, i know fook all about BMW's.
dodgydoughnut Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 just got me thinking, ive got a old 92 535i manual and it is a well revvy motor? got me thinking about a m3 engine box???
sambo Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I hate Beemers really, (sorry), except for the batmobiles, ...Mmmmmmmmm.......batmobiles..... Sorry, where was i?....oh yeah, they do make good engines though and i have always thought that it surprising that i havent heard of a beemer powered osf yet? Do it mate, i reckon it'll be awesome!
Mark1Ant Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 even though ive just gone pinto, id say cossie power. i know it will b the next step ill be taking!
