bigglesmk2 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 White van man seems to have a problem with me? Cant cut me up when im sideways
Admin Vista Posted November 28, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 28, 2007 i get stared at by the mg boys cos im louder and faster I went along on a MG run last year they were quite welcoming to me, I also took the escort along to a Vintage car club outing and they were really wlecoming too, I ended up sat next to someone who worked for Fords motorsport division when they were rallying the Lotus Cortina. He was a really interesting old fella, there two stories he told that got my attention 1. The Cortina came a gnats cock away from being called the cardinal 2. They had a Lotus cortina on a motorshow stand and asked a model to drape herself over the bonnet for a photoshoot a couple of hours before the show opened. You got it, ally bonnet and she crushed it
Mr Sam Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 ive been made very welcome at a classics meet (the type of meet where everyone is quite old and has probably owned the cars from new and are all in original condition) there just young people like the old cars so the old cars will have a future after them i have come across the odd irritable bar stewerd that has to pass bad abuse about the car but hey cant please everyone
lee_capri Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 most people drive their classic car how it was meant to be driven and dont thrash them around like some of us,but i will emeat it's nice to see something 30yrs old canning the ar*e of the new stuff or just sat in the fast lane at a ton ,but i think it's a pride thing the slower you go more people can look
Guest MK1gaz Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Most classic cars can't be driven like an old escort etc can so they normally just tip-toe about instead . Your average mk1/2 escort owner will drift sideways at every opportunity though (because he can) and you will be frowned upon by the cloth cap M.G. posse
Muttley MK2 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Is it me? or is there a kind of inverted snobbery in the osf camp. There are so many topics slagging off other classic owners, other classic cars, types of paint jobs, wheels, no of doors, the list goes on. Jeez people live and let live. Be confident in your own choices and stop worrying what the whole world and its mother thinks of you or your car!! I have had folks knocking my mk2 capri cos ot has a 500 watt sound system in it. The guy doing the knocking had a mk1 mex with all the "correct" stuff on it, I pointed out to him that I owned such a car in 1976 and at that time I was customizing the car ( a practice frowned on by the purists of the time) and no one told me what to do! So folks enjoy the variety of the world of petrol heads and keep bigotry, syniscism, and general sour grapes out of it!!
lee_capri Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 have you heard that saying,if i had that or id do this, well i think people should get pleasure from what they are doing, never mind any-body else,im in to all classic car's dont go out to race them or burn them off,l like burning plastic but they to take pride in their car's,weather it's a r.s turbo,or a kitted up corsa with a paint job and big wheel's,it's all about what you are in to and i try to stay open minded, and dont care what i drive just has long it go's well, but i will say some do make me smile to my self.
mossy Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 was quite surprised....the RAC bloke who recovered my mondeo was nosing around the estate...and mentioned he had a fully rally built lotus twincam...then retired from rallies and just did hillclimbs and sprints.. so if anyone has a twincam YYO....!
kris Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 i get stared at by the mg boys cos im louder and faster My MGB is faster than my Escort and believe me, I drive the MG like I stole it.... Current Escort project will be faster tho
GT_Jim Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 i never had that, i was being followed up the dual carridge way by a guy in a series 2 e type, we were both going for it then he gave me a wave as he passed me
