Anything cheap and thick if it is a fresh engine, it won't be in long before you change it.

300 miles sounds a little short to me I'd go easy a bit longer than that.

No m8, save that for when it's run in.

 

These oils offer excellent protection for your engine but that isn't the idea of running an engine in.

 

If the rings/bores aren't bedded in properly it could result in a poor engine for ever more

 

I wouldn't pussyfoot around when running the engine in either. Don't be affraid the rev it to say 75% of its max.

 

If anyone has ever seen an engine run-in on a dyno or on the rollers they'll know what I mean. They don't potter around with it for 500 miles they rev it quite high varying the load, gradually increasing the revs.

After about an hour its at max rpm

 

I use £2.99 asda oil for a 200 mile run-in, changed it for valvoline and drove it to Santa Pod and run a 15.0, and the engine just gets better and better!

Yeah really , any normal 20/50 oil will do, just save the expensive stuff for when its run in. Still get some as you'll need it soon anyway.

 

I use Valvoline Racing 20/50 once run-in

well said mr fiesta why do 500 miles to find out if a engines gonna go bag the first time you load it up. 20mins running from new on cheap 20/50 then new oil and filter then big portions of right foot. if alls well have some fun. every engine ive ever built gets the same. no holes yet
