brettp Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Whats been the hardest job you have done your car the ones that really have tried your patience and made you want to take a hammer to it? i will start the ball rolling with the capri windscreen did you know that they have 2 types of windscreen seals and that it is impossible to fit the windscreen if it dont match the rubber ? neither did i .fitting a bias pedal box out of an escort was also not a joy full eperience and trying to make nos lines in stainless that fitted under the air filter was just to much did them in alloy in the end much easier to bend
Rick Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 repairing a fooked bonnet skin... pay the extra and get a good one
bigglesmk2 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Try changing a gearbox on a 1.3 mk4 escort, because it was only a small engine and box we just whiped the lot out and changed the box on the deck.Put the it all back in started it up put it into gear to check gearbox was a good'n and to make sure clutch had been lined up. We had taken the drive shafts completely off to make life easier, hadnt put them back in,when i put it in gear and expected the car to move all the gears fell apart
bortaf Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 As abouve but with a 1.8 diesel in the tiny bay twat of a job and ni on as bad as a Mk6 escort van clutch adjuster OSF it would have to be seized Mk2 transit kingpins
V8ian Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Anything French really, Mostly Wide body 16v Clios, Cambelt is a real bastd, changing all the tensioners and waterpump as well, cannot be done on situ, then followed by a clutch the following weekend, both entail subframe out if you do it by the book,

Retromotorsport Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 For lows and highs it must be this ... http://tv.retrofords.net/efb9e19094440c ... port-Style Lots of lows in that one .. the first being the condition of the shell after gutting the car, a hell of a lot more work than we thought and only 23 hours to strip and repair the shell before it went to paint .. last minute things aswell .. like the headlamp falling out and smashing in the final hours before the reveal .. all forgotten once the car was revealed 84 hours after we started it though. But for me, the most annoying job is removing Anti-Tramp brackets a year after I had told the owner to link the car instead .. as thats where they are heading .. " nooo i'll stick with the anti-tramps, they will do " one year on "Gary i need my car linking ..... gary... gary... you there gary "

Guest MK1gaz Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Well the worst job on mine was trying to get the foooooooking thing to start !!!!!!!! No matter what i tried it wouldn't so i ripped out all the engine management and flogged it and had another lot fitted . Guess what , it still wouldn't foooooooking start !!!!!!! In the end it was because the engine needs to spin over at over 200rpm before the crank trigger will tell the E.C.U. to start the engine . So several knackered starter motors later i now have 24v starting

The job I hate most is fitting 4 speed v6 gearboxs in capris. sooo heavy and always greasy as fook. Also fitted a rover v8 in a capri once had it all plumbed in ready to go then had to take it all out again. sump had to come off coz the oil pick up pipe hadn't sealed proply. That was a tad anoying.

Burns Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 doing the core plugs on an anglebox, took the gearbox off from underneath and smudger dropped the flyweel on the metal grate about an inch above my head, then proceeded to try and drown me when he took the core plug out ok, my story's shite...
Rick Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 The most painful thing I've done Is changing the coil pack and my mate turned the engine over and blew me across the front garden into a bush!
